Nav System Picks Bad Routes

I have a 2012 X35i with the BMW navigation system. I have set the preference for fastest route, but the darn thing selects terrible routes that are out of the way and slower than routes I have cross checked with Google Maps. Has anyone else had trouble with BMW's navigation system?

Haven't tried the latest iteration yet but having used older generations of BMW Nav as well as Garmin, I've yet to see a system without some problems.

I've seen garmin give me bad routes. Even google maps. Can't beat local road knowledge especially in New Jersey! Then again, if you don't know where you're going then you have no other choice. :-)

The NAV in our X3 is the WORST system I have ever used.

1) Driving down an expressway it will have us exit and then reenter the same expressway.
2) Take the "two right angle" streets instead of the "hypotenuse" -- even when the side streets have stop lights and the "hypotenuse" doesn't
3) Completely stop navigating in the middle of route

It is fine for driving long distance on the highway. It is WORTHLESS for routing around town.

Our 2010 X5 did the on and off the expressway thing, particularly on the NJ Turnpike. Eventually realized it thought it was a truck and kept wanting to be in the truck lanes!

Also seemed to have a strong preference for numbered highways: federal, state and even county. Would lead to some pretty strange routings some times, e.g. it had a strong preference for US1 despite all the traffic lights.

Was hoping they had fixed some of that by now. I guess we will see when we pick up our '13 X3 35i at the Performance Center next week!

Terrible NAV system. Pretty embarrassing for BMW.

sorry guys TONS of posts that BMW nav stinks.. i literally have an $89 garmin in my glove box. This nav on my 2012 528i literally has me 1/4 mile to my destination then.. it makes me go 1 mile in opposite direction then loop around the block and go back to destination...

i feel sorry for anyone in NYC area... this always puts you through the middle of everything and WAY out of the way.

it's a known fact that BMW switching away from Navteq maps to teleatlas has been an issue.

My 2013 X3 X28 Navigation really sucks, twice I've used it and I went miles out of my way needlessly. Hopefully they will have a software update to fix this.-
