Has anyone found a replacement for the sidemarkers for 2011-2012 E70?

I want to change the sidemarker from amber to white. Has anyone done this? seems the whole housing needs to be changed. Any insight would be great. Thanks in advance.

I have seen that you guys in the US have these on your cars. Are these required by US law? We don't have these on our cars here in Australia and i have wondered what purpose they serve!
Good luck anyhow!

Sorry for the confusion but I'm not talking about the front amber reflector. I'm talking about the side marker turn signal.

They blink with the turn signal on. Just for added visibility. Don't think it is required by US law as many American cars don't have this.

Sorry, I meant the lights or reflectors at the very front corner of the fenders!

I wanted to do this as well. Doing a search on fleabay always comes up with the reflectors. I've wondered though.. are there earlier year x5's that have these same markers with replaceable bulbs? Maybe they fit the same and can be installed on ours and the peanut bulb can be swapped out with an led? Just thinking out loud here.

I've bought that already from the same seller and it is just bulbs. When you look at the housing, it seems the bulb is embedded into it. I purchased a used pair and plan to take it apart to see if i can change the bulb or its most likely a built in LED. Eitherway its going to be a project. Thanks for the link though.

Thanks for being the guinea pig. I've seen that several times and always hesitated because they show a picture of a bulb.

Small Update. Sucess!! Somehwat...I found a solution but might not be pretty for all.

So after researching around, the sidemarker for the E70 seems to be the only one that has not been replaced / changed. I finally found an existing part for a 2004 330CI sidemarker. Same shape, and same plug. It doesn't fit the same like OEM though.

I bought these http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/E4...rkers-04-Coupe

They are meant for only a E46 Coupe Non M version 2004 330ci. Now just remember this is not fully plug and play. I did not splice nor modified the body of the car. I just tinkered with the housing of the sidemarker to fit and I had to just take apart the harness that plugs into the sidemarker. The reason why I modified the harness is the Sidemarker will not fit all the way due to the plug being blocked by the inner wall of the fender.

After using some electrical tape to make sure the harness / plug is covered, the side marker is still not mounted properly. I decided to use 3M doublesided tape to keep it mounted. I know I will never take it off as long as I have the car and I can revert it back easily with the original parts. I will post pictures tonight but wanted to give an update to everyone.

With this last part, I've changed all my bulbs interior and exterior to White LED. The only bulbs that are still original are the brake lights, rear turn signals (which are red anyway) and the highbeam flasher, which i barely use.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask away.

And here is the video of the modified one. I forgot to take a pic. What does bother me a bit is that its a bit bluer than i thought. I still love it compared to amber. Yay! No more amber.

That looks great, imo! Nicely done. How difficult was it to take out the original side marker housing? Any tips?

Many thanks!

It wasn't that hard as you just have to take apart the harness of the original plug a bit. Taking off the marker is easy. I also had to modify the new side marker housing a bit.

I replaced the whole housing as it has built in white LEDS.
