How's this deal?
I'm looking at a couple of dealer demo cars. Both are 2013 X5 3.5i's with convenience, comfort, cold weather, bmw apps, and 3rd row. One is premium for $55000 and the other is a sport for $56500. Are these good deals? They both have about 4000 miles and were used as demo cars.
Thanks in advance. Jin Last edited by niranjans; 02-05-2013 at 04:56 PM. |

What was the precise invoice for EACH of these cars? Find that out and you will be able to tell. Without that, it is pure guesswork.
I would NEVER buy a demo- the deals always suck, and generally only get sold to people too dumb to really understand the pricing for new cars and unable to negotiate. Once you know what a 'good deal' is for new, you will find that dealers never discount the demos enough to make sense....

From BMWconfig, dealer invoice is $60,125 for the Sport and $57,915 for the Premium. At $3000 - $4000 off invoice, I was thinking I could get an extended warranty to 100,000 miles and still save some money.

It boils down to simple math and logic:
BASED ON THE NEED TO BUY A VEHICLE NOW!!: IF you want to save every last dollar on the X5 purchase, than by all means those are the best deals your gonna get. Tack on the Extended warranty and your set for 6k or 100K IF you are willing to go to the diesel, than your easily looking at a better deal than both of those vehicles (since you can negotiate invoice+500(dealer profit)-ECO credit). PLUS YOU get a factory fresh vehicle (I remember seeing a diesel from an Atlanta dealership for 9k off msrp which put it at 54K and Im guessing since it was a '12 you would have more wiggle room). IF you are only looking for an X5 petrol AND willing to give up say 3k than just get into a premium custom built or off the lot for 2k extra. New vehicle, no demo headache possibilities. G luck!

I don't think its a good deal. here is why?
You can build your own exactly the way you want and still get approximately 5K off invoice price. + any dollars promotions (like holiday offers etc, if they exist) + BMW finance dollars off. so, you may end up paying 2K more but mostly this a once in a life time purchase. You can pick the color, specs, design and even go for performance center delivery. given these advantages, why do you want to settle a DEMO model driven by several people for mere saving of 2K? so, it doesnt make sense. |
