Power of 740i 2011 vs 750i e66 model

I know that 750i 2011 is more powerful than 740i,but what about 740i 2011 and 750i (e66). I know most of u were owners of previous models of 7's, i am looking forward for honest for opinions. Thank you

The N54 (now N55?) in the 740 is more than adequate. Its rated at 5.8s (6 speed - new 8 speed is slightly quicker) 0-60 and it feels that fast, a little rough sounding on the higher RPMs, but never slow. At freeway passing speeds, it feels like a much faster car.

If price, economy, or availability limited me to the 740, I'd get another one in a heartbeat.

I have the 2011 740i. Absolutely amazing car, especially the N54. I added a pedal box to it just to remove the throttle latency. Now it drives like a 750.

One thing to remember is insurance as well. My premium went up $500 every 6 months going from a 740 to a 750. $1160/6 months for my current ride, yikes!

When did they change N54 to N55 on 740i? how is manufacture of pedal box? Why N54 is better? Thank you

You're a young guy then, Chris! I called Wawanesa and asked what it would cost to insure a 2013 750i and they quoted me $644 per year. I'm a 17 year Wawanesa customer, no claims, no tickets, only other driver is my wife (kid is 6) and we're both 44 years old. I work from home and don't commute so that also adds to the quote.

I actually was shocked at the quote. We have two older cars now and pay $600 per year total for maxed out insurance on them and I was expecting at least $2000 a year for the 750!

I think the 2013 740i is N55, not sure if N54 is better than N55 but I heard great review on N54. Pedal Box is a device that will remove the throttle latency. All our German cars have throttle lag, but this will totally remove it. I also feel that it decreases turbo lags also. You pretty much get instant power from the twin turbo. Keep in mind this device will NOT give you extra HP or Torque. A lot of people or tuner don't believe this thing cause they never tried. You can add lots of HP from a tuner by programing the ECU, header.....etc but after all you will get additional HP but the throttle latency is still there.

I used to have the 2008 Mercedes E63 AMG and have it modified to 600hp. Amazing NA V8 engine. Lots of torque. But again, throttle latency still remain. I just added the sprint booster on the top of it, the car flies. Sprint Booster is similiar to the Pedal Box. Main purpose is to remove throttle latency.

Once I installed the pedal box, I had my friend drive it, he is a BMW trained technician used to work at the dealer but now he has his own shop. He never tried this. Here is the driving impression from him, "WOW wow wow wow". LOL

It is very easy to install on our 740 and 750. I guarantee you will addict to it.

Since 2012, the 740i has N55HP, which actually puts out 315 hp / 330 lb-ft (vs N55 300 hp/300 lbft).

Call me skeptical, but why do these cars have the lag? Putting in this pedal box has got to be detrimental somewhere, down the road no?

That is my opinion, drive by wire system give a lag, because it goes from pedal to throttle then to ECU and then ECU generate everything else only after that engine response. It used to be u press a pedal ,wire from pedal open throttle body mechanically.

At what RPM does turbo kick in?

I would say approx 3k depends on throttle. The car just wanna GO! You get instant power thats what I like about, at the freeway you can pass cars with ease. Especially when you hit 80mph, step on the gas pedal a little bit, it goes like nothing.

Goes like hell isn't the word , from 70-80 just pacing the gas it simply flies to 100-120 like if it was fake Lol

Just to express how easy to get the car goes. Of course everyone knows it won't go like a rocket lol. But if definitely make a huge difference.

are we still taking about 740,right? what is power before turbo kicks in?

with all this talk of power on a 740, is the MPG benefit really present when you have to mash the pedal to 3K RPM's vs a 750?
