About to give up on my 330i

New poster here and am down on my luck.

I bought a 2006 330i back in April with about 50,000 miles on it.

Since then I have had the following happen:
1st trip to dealer: (August 4th)
Water Pump failure (overheat)
Oil Leak - Valve Cover Gasket

2nd trip: (October 4th)
Ignition coils

3rd trip: (December 5th)
Oil Filter housing Gasket leak
Mechatronic leak

Now today I think I have another oil leak. Is this just bad luck or is something more wrong with this car?

At this point I am about ready to trade it in for something else as it is getting ridiculous. What are you guy's thoughts?

Oh and two days ago someone slammed into my passenger door in a parking lot leaving a huge dent.

The valve covers seem to be the achilles of that particular engine. I can't speak for the water pump or the ignition coils. The only other thing I'd say to wait for is the lock actuators. Wait until you have to climb in the driver's seat from the back row!

Kidding aside, I've had mine for 4 years now and still love it. I am looking at another valve cover leak but have been told by an independent mechanic that it's not too expensive to repair. Waiting to get settled from a move and then get it corrected.

Water Pump is a pain at that mileage but the rest sounds minor IMO. If you can DIY the fixes to make sure they done correctly

I am ready to dump my car today (bought a month ago with 10K miles).. decided to give it until spring and see if I can iron the bugs out myself. Nothing major, I just do not have the spare time to keep fixing it and the dealership is next to useless unless the car is throwing a code

I had the valve cover oil leak too. Pissed me off, clearly shoddy mfg, but what can u do when warranty is up?

I now have 86k miles, no real problems since (knock wood). You have low miles, maybe worth keeping until 100k

We've had new members in here who have asked the forum about buying '06, '07 3-series, and I, for one have expressed CAUTION based on the reports in NHTSA's "complaint database," (Google NHTSA complaints and enter the year, make, model).

I've been accused of being "overly cautious." Consumer Reports magazine also gives these model years less than stellar reliability reports.

Sorry: "Caveat Emptor." There's adequate information out there to determine the potential reliability of these cars... and anyone who "optimistically" preaches that these cars could have been "maintained well," and could be a "great deal," are DREAMING.

All of them are potential repair nightmares.

If you where me would you stick it out awhile longer or trade it while I still can get something for it?

I know the feeling.

I too have a 2006 330i (manual), now with 70K miles. This past summer the radiator decided to fail on the interstate. Had to have it towed etc.

Later, the heater fan motor failed. So I get it replaced, along with new brake pads. For 6 months all OK. Now I get a "Brake pads need replacement" warning every time I start the car. Of course it's been reset, but one computer must not be talking to the other.

I also used to have an X3. I sold that one due to an impending, and premature, transfer case failure.

This will probably be my last BMW. Going back to Japanese. Too bad, because the BMWs are much more fun to drive.
