Drivers door won't lock

My drivers side door won't lock with the key. Also couldn't manually lock it either. Pulled the door panel, checked the actuator, it's fine. Pulled the door lock it's fine also. I can manually lock the door with the actuator disconnected and the rod to the key lock, so it seems to be the key lock. Does this sound right, so does it sound like I need to replace the handle - key assembly. If I do ,is there a way to use my existing key.

I replaced the lock cylinder in a 93 e36 and it wasn't that bad. Probably similar or the same lock. Anyway you just take the tumblers out of your lock (keeping them in order) and put them into the new cylinder. Then your key will fit.

Does the actuator arm move in and out?

It does. It seems that the problem is in the lock assembly. The rods going to the actuator and to the door latch from the assembly wont move when the key is turned either direction. Can unlock and lock passenger door with key from this door. You can see the actuator trying to move ,but it can't. Disconnected the rod and it moves freely.

Sounds like a mechanical problem in the lock. Take it out, clean lubricate and check. Could some @#$%^* have had a go at stealing the car and dameged the lock parts?

Thanks for the help. I totally disassembled the lock. Think it was put together wrong. Got it working.
