my car seems to be tugging its bmw 525d 52reg

Help!! My bmw started to slightly falter a couple of months ago, I thought I'd got a mucky fuel filter so I changed this n popped some injector cleaner in my tank, fuel filter was clean but I'd bought the new one so I changed it anyway, car still Smokey n faltering, then someone mentioned the egr valve so instead of cleaning It i bought a new one, cars exactly the same did a oil change still the same, read about the swirl flaps so I blanked mine off too, one was snapped n jammed closed but all bits were intact I thought I'd found the problem, but it still seems to be pulling, I've now changed the air filter and checked the flow of air is ok, I've done all the easy things that I can think can anyone suggest anything else.

Nip over to http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/ as that's more of a UK centric forum with some excellent mechanically knowledgable members who may well be able to help you further. This forum is 99% USA centric and the E39 Diesel variant's didn't make it over there - their petrol is so very very cheap!
