X1 E84 (2011 - current)
The new to the US BMW X1 will arrive at BMW dealers in the fall of 2012 as a 2013 model year. Get your X1 28i with either sDrive (RWD) or xDrive (AWD) or get the US exclusive I6 N55 powered X1 35i dDrive. |

X1 questions
I plan to order an X1 around the August timeframe. Right now, I am leaning towards the xLine 2.8 in brown. In the meantime, I am trying to learn as much as I can about the vehicle. Thanks in advance for any info you can offer -
Sharkfin antenna - exactly what package or option does this come with (I do not plan to get the NAV option)? Bicycle storage inside - with the seats folded down, is there enough room for a road bicycle to lay flat? This much written about hesitation / tip-in - does anyone know if the dealers have software mods to help reduce the lag? Any word if they've fixed the lag with the 2014's? |

No dealer software updates. Some people report success after getting the system reset but that only lasts a few weeks usually. There are some third party tuner mods that do reduce the hesitation, it's either a designed drop in power for some reason or character of certain sensing, possibly COx reasons. I'd recommend driving a few 28i X1s and see if you even notice it. Some people might never notice it, others who are very keen listeners and sensitive to every aspect of the driving feel will notice it. I didn't like the hesitation and went with a 35 for partly for this reason. No one really knows if it's going to be fixed. Everyone hopes but the X3's and other models have it as well and they've been hoping for a fix longer than the X1 has been in the US. 2014's really aren't changin at all and I don't see BMW not releasing a fix until '2014's come' out if they have a fix. The 2014s won't hit our shores until May at the earliest. Don't expect major changes. I have yet to experience the major throttle lag/hesitation others have complained of on my x28i M Sport. There is a very slight delay that all BMWs have had for several years now (drive by wire) which I am used to. The BMS stage 1 tune seems to reduce turbo lag. Test drive for yourself to evaluate the lag.
You need the smartphone snap-in adapter installed (both extra charges) to take advantage of the shark fin. My parents bought it for iPhone4 along with BMW Apps despite me telling them they don't need it. Now they never use it. |
