Extended Warranty - Platinum/Gold

I'm interested in the Platinum/Gold extended warranty. My dealer offered Platinum 7 yr/84k for $2995. It sounds expensive to me. I just wanted to see at what price point it would be worth it.

I'm looking at a price point where the dealer would actually be able to sell to me.

Is that an extra 3 years for $3000?
or 7 years after your original 4 year warranty runs out?

I'm guessing you get 7 years total for an extra $3000.
$1000 a year for warranty?
Not sure I would take that.

Yes a total of 7 years/84k. I am definitely not looking at purchasing this as well. But wondering what would be a good price point to buy. From what I read on the other Bimmerfest threads it looks like this is the only extra worth buying if the price is right.

I paid 3 years or 75K warranty for $2800 in Australia

Thanks for the response. What are the chances we will end up using this on the X1 after the original warranty expires? IS it like 50-50?

I can't speak as to the price vs value but you could always buy the warranty as you approach 50k miles or 4 years.

I put on a lot of miles per year and ended up buying the platinum plan warranty and the maintenance plan for my 5 series at around 43k miles..

I think I ended up paying around 3,500 for the warranty and another 2k for the maintenance.. That'll get me to 100k miles which I'll reach in a total of 4 years from buying the car.. Then at that point I'll either sell it, trade it in or just keep driving knowing a $5,000 repair could be on the horizon at any moment..

Extended Warranty - Platinum/Gold

That's a good question. I'm not sure about selling it but I was told by the sa that if I crash the car a pro rated amount will be returned to me. I know that extended warranties used to be passed to the next buyer but I remember reading that something was changed about this just recently.

I'm sure someone else with definitive info can chime in on this.

I don't know about selling back unused portions of the extended warranty or passing it on to the next person, but

We're at the stage with Mrs. Lee's 2014 X1 that we need to decide on getting an extended warranty, going without or trading it in. She has 43k miles on the car, the in-service date was 01/14 and the Platinum Warranty is $3080, but goes until 100k miles or 01/19. Really hard pill to swallow here. She just had a turbo charger replaced under warranty that otherwise would have run her $4300. But $3080 for another 24 mos. of worry-free driving is $128/mo. Add that to her monthly payment and she might be better off trading it in or going with a lease.

Any suggestions? Are there good non-BMW extended warranties?

I'm revisiting this post since I ended up trading in my 5 series for a X5.

The pro-rated piece of the warranty was returned to me as I only had about 75K on the car when trading it in. I don't believe I received anything on the maintenance plan.

I had to reach out to the finance department of the dealership that sold me the extended warranty and provide them information that showed I traded my car in.

I'm not sure how that would have worked had I sold it. I believe the warranty would have transferred but I'm not sure about maintenance..

Sell the car with warranty and ask for $1000 more than without

I negotiated $1750 for the Platinum 7/84 on my 2013 when I bought mine this past December. They started at $4K. Afterwards the finance manager claimed his cost was $1500.
