Things you don't like about your X3...
I have been enjoying my new 2013 X3 28i the past couple months, already have 7000+ miles on it. There are many many things I love about my X3. But I got to admit, it is not perfect and I do have a few complaints...
1. Unresponsiveness Somewhat unresponsive in comfort mode. There's a half second hesitation when I floor the the gas pedal all the way. It sucks when I try to merge/turn into a busy traffic. 2. Navigation is completely garbage. It can't find even well known POI such as In-N-Out burgers near by. I now just use the google maps navigation on my iphone. 3. Start/Stop function.... no words need to be said. 4. Push start combines with start/stop leads to different sequence for shutting off the car... do I push once? or twice? but the door is open this time? but I have disabled start/stop this time? maybe push one more time to turn off the radio? damn why the engine just starts again. It can be confusing sometimes. 5. Too much wind/road noise for a luxury car. Last edited by edbiology; 01-10-2013 at 11:32 AM. |

1. Use Sport mode
2. Neither can iOS maps, so you're in good company. Buy a Garmin. 3. Have the dealer reprogram to remember the last setting (or code it yourself) 4. Twice. 5. No clue. I don't have wind noise. |

The only thing I don't like is the electric power steering but that is an industry wide issue... I've gotten use to the X3's steering, that is until I drive my wife's 7yr old Acura... then I remember what steering response is suppose to feel like.

How do you code it yourself?

Start/Stop is definitely high on the list. The USB Music feature being extremely difficult to navigate. RF Tires costs and ride. Steering wheel and Trunk Release button positions are difficult to reach. Lack of small door handle pockets except for the driver.
Most of these problems, I consider as minor. Still love the vehicle after 7 months. |

I've only had my 2013 for a couple of months...thankfully, it doesn't seem to have hesitation issues, but totally agree that the start/stop function is a PITA...planning to let the dealer reprogram it ASAP. Also agree (and my wife strongly seconds this...) that the nav system is NOT user friendly...to say the least...

Bring it back to your dealer and get your car's software updated for the hesitation issues:

We just got one without Comfort Access. What a mistake. This is the only car I have bough tin the last 30 years that I cannot lock and close the door and walk away. BMW says its so you can't lock the fob inside, kinda of like keys!! Remember when we had a spare metal key hidden somewhere just in case. To old school for BMW i guess.
We have to use the key fob to get in and leave, but not to run. Annoying. VERY Annoying BMW!! Can this this be solved by coding? ML |

Now that I've had my 2011 X3 28i for almost a year, I've grown to like it a lot. The hesitation is all but gone. I don't know if I adapted to it or if it finally worked itself out. Oddly enough it really seemed to clear up when I changed the oil myself (off cycle) and added a can of gas treatment. Surely coincidental.
The car drives great on the highway and corners well on the back roads. I don't have any wind noise. I find it to be very quiet (more so than our 128). The navigation system is easy to use and more accurate than our Garmin. Has not lead me wrong yet. Got to love the backup and forward sensors. Liking the X3. |

1) Can't figure out what specifically makes that whining noise when the car is turned off
2) CD Player - have not been able to get track names to show on the screen. No I am not using a pirated/burned CD 3) 5k miles driven and I have already got 3-4 warnings: Multiple low tire pressure warnings, 1 coolant low warning and 1 wiper fluid low warning. Might have to take it in. |

Had that sound with my old e90. I think it's vents, could be wrong. Always thought its cool that there's some detail that they thought of for these cars.

Headlights...... I didn't get the Xenons. You would think that the signature Halo would be available standard on all BMWs. I learned the hard way. Didn't realized the X3 doesn't have that feature until I got home. jeez....

Haha I like my regular headlights. But that must have sucked to have a surprise like that after purchase. My sister bought an Acura Integra in the 90s, and she didn't realize until she got home that her new car didn't have automatic windows...

I haven't taken delivery yet but I was disappointed to see that the tilt/telescoping steering wheel only has manual adjustment. My C300 is electric, remembers it's position with seat memory and also moves up to allow easier exit and then moves down into position after ignition.

I miss having a digital read-out of the speedometer. I wanted the HUD, but due to timing, I purchased a car off the lot that had all the essential I needed -- although I got the car immediately, which is nice. I guess I assumed the speedometer had something digital and I didn't see its absence during the test drive. Nothing major.

I Love It
My only complaint is I should have bought my 2013 X3 35i sooner.
![]() Its a great vehicle! The dealer here in Las Vegas has been great too.!

Price...
The X3 can get seriously expensive if you start checking the option boxes. Before you know it you are approaching 60K - and you think - wow how did I do that.....funny how desirables become essentials. Pondering alternative vehicles, seemingly viable alternatives come up short in one category or another. Yes the X3 can easily find itself in X5 territory, but the X5 35i feels dated and the x5d feels dated and goes clickety-clack. So I test drive the X3 again and jus' dive in - btw my only question today, haha, is how BMW manages to pack so much value into the X3 35i M Sport....guys who love cars inhabit a world of perfectly logical rationalization....it's always been about passion.

Just got my new X3!!!!
Hello All,
I just received my new 2013 X3 on the 18th of December 2012. The color is Vermilion Red, with the following packages: ZAP, ZCV, ZCW, ZCX, ZDA, ZPP, ZPS, ZTP, and 610. Leather Nevada Chestnut with Fineline Sienna wood trim. Model is 28I US spec. I am loving it!!! I traded in my 2011 328I with Xdrive in October of last year so the wait wasn't too bad. I will post some pictures this weekend. I just got back from vacation. So I will be chiming in on the X3 questions if I can answer them. Or I will be asking questions. Cheers! |

The only thing so far that I don't like is the lack of the compass in the rear-view mirror. I thought I was getting it, considering that I got almost every option. Come to find out it's not there. I asked the dealer, who told me that they have stopped doing that for the 2013 model. I had it in my 2011 328I and I liked it!

I haven't noticed any wind noise, but then again, with the premium sound system, I don't hear anything outside of the X3:-)

In the USA brochure there's a chart of all the exterior and interior color combinations that you can and cannot get. Your colors are the only ones in the chart that you "can't" get. Pictures definitely in order!

Don't like the heated steering switch position : out of sight (lower left under the steering column).

Have only had for 1 day, and really love it, but so far don't like:
Manual adjustment of steering wheel My FX35 would automatically move the seat back when you turn engine off to ease sliding out of seat, really miss that Not yet, but in summer will really miss ventilated seats like FX35 had Auto start/stop is really annoying, perhaps I'll get used to it, but doubt it No remote start, and irks me immensely that the My BMW app is enabled to do this in Europe. I don't have a garage and hate going out to an ice box in the morning. RFTs Nav is not nearly as intuitive as my last car Center console is very small & overall not much in line of storage compartments With comfort access have to unlock doors via driver door before can open back door Courtesy lamps have to be activated manually each time |
