Valve tick 2008 E83 3.0

Picked up a light valve tick (clearly coming from the valve cover and in exact cadence with rpm speed). Has anyone else out there had this issue? Was the fix a valve adjustment or did it require a top-end rebuild? Cost? I do redline the vehicle from time to time but in my experience owning 4 other BMWs, this has never been detrimental to the valve-train. The vehicle has 38K miles and had an oil change 2K miles ago---

Very common problem on 2007 and 2008 models. See here:

Solution, while under warranty, is to first replace lifters. When that doesn't work they replace the top end of the engine with the revised part. As a side my 01/09 build is quite as a church mouse with the revised head design from the factory.

If you are out of warranty this repair is cost prohibitive. I would up my oil change frequency.

This is known "issue". My wife gets this occasionally on her X3 due to her short trips (4mi). Just drive the car further OR more spirited (get RPMs up). The ticking will not cause harm to the engine.

I have never had any ticking on my 2006 330i since I drive a bit further and I have a manual (full control of RPMs).

Thanks for the quick reply--by the time I arrived at work, (about a 15 mile freeway ride) the noise had stopped. The car was built in December of 2008, but may have gotten the older HVA. My warranty just expired last month--less than 30 days ago and my service advisor has been great, so I may see what they might be willing to do on this. At least I know it is not damaging the engine---just my peace of mind!
