Wheel/Tire Setup for 2011 328i
I live in the northeast and I'd like to get a pair of wheels, a summer tire, and a winter tire.
After lots of research and talking to ModBargains, I decided to go with this setup: Wheels: 19" Avant Garde M359 Wheels - Black (link) Front Wheel Size: 19×9 ET35 Real Wheel Size: 19×10 ET38 Summer Tires: Hankook V12 tires F 235/35/19 R 265/30/19 Winter Tires: Blizzak tires F 235/35/19 R 265/30/19 Wheel Spacers (may or may not add): H&R Trak+ Wheel Spacers - 5mm for Front/Rear (link) |

You'll probably have scrubbing issues in the front with 235/35R19s on ET30 at full steering lock - the tire will contact the forward fender liner. ET 33 rear should be fine but 265s on 10" wheels will look stretched just a bit.

Maybe someone else can chime in whether these dimensions will lead to scrubbing issues or not? |

19" snow tires in Boston? The potholes will eat the wheels and the tires alive. Also, you want thin tires, 225s or less, for running in snow.
Drop down to 16" or 17" Blizzaks for the snows. The $70 savings per tire on 17" will pay for the TPMS sensors, and if you buy a set of dedicated inexpensive alloy wheels for the winters you'll save $200/yr on swapping tires and be ahead of the game after 2 winters. It will go in an even better direction with 16" wheels. For that matter, fit the winters on the wheels you have now (assuming they're not a staggered 18" set).

i doubt 19" rims and tires will survive a winter in boston. or spring for that matter. the potholes will destroy them. 16" rims-- they dont look bling but will be alot less succeptible to damage as well as being cheaper. or 17" snows on your existing rims. |

i had 19s on my 2010 and 2007, had serious issues in NYC (which is slightly worse than boston, my brother up there has had serious pothole damage as well) untill i went with larger tires (~26" vs stock of 25") for my F30 i didnt even bother with 19s. stuck with 18s and will probably upsize the aspect ratio to get more rubber between the rims and the road. my winters are upsized 17s |

19s may look cool, but they, tires and wheels, are more susceptible to road hazard damage and they will actually degrade road performance and ride quality. 18s will give better perfomance, ride quality, be less susceptible to damage, and be less costly.

SUMMER: Avant Garde M359 Wheels – 19" Silver [F: 19x9 ET35, R: 19x10 ET38] Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K110 Tires (F: 235/35/19, R: 265/30/19) WINTER: Factory Wheels - 16" Silver Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 Tires Does that winter setup look good now? And what size tire should I go for with the winter setup? Last edited by drewski554; 01-04-2013 at 12:58 PM. |

I'm on a new set of WS70s now, and they're great in the snow.
Something like 205/55-16 would seem to put you in the right ballpark. I'd confirm it with someone like the guys from TireRack before buying (i.e. - will that size fit on the factory wheels, or should you go with 225/50-16). Because of the larger brake rotors on the 335, I'm running 225/45-17, but with factory 16s, you should be able to get narrower. Best snow performance I ever had was on 195s on my old Passat 4motion.
