Iwant to change the exhaust to an after market on my 2013 X3 35i. However, does anyone know the "real" reason for the vacuum operated valve in the current exhaust.
If it's for back pressure for the turbo or some other reason I don't want the affect the warranty by changing the exhaust..
Thanks in advance...

Backpressure. Don't know if you will gain anything by going with an aftermarket muffler. Maybe a slightly different exhaust tone. Won't be any noticeable power gain. Some have unplugged the vacuum hose and made the butterfly valve open at all times. You can try that, see if you like the results.
