Help!! Check engine light
Wondering if anyone has any input, my 1999 540i has a check engine light on. I reset the light and it stays off while im driving it, but as soon as i turn it off and back on the check engine light comes back. the code is p011 which is A camshaft timing over-advanced or system too lean bank 1. I have switched the cam position sensors and the code stays on the same bank. i just changed my oil and its full. The car has been sitting for 2 years, (It had 2 burnt valves and no compression in two cylinders. I pulled the head and replaced the valves, i guess it is possible that i got the cam timing wrong, even though i used all the bmw specific tools, and have timed 540s before, this is the first VANOS 540 i have timed. Car seems like its running great, but i need to smog it now and just wanted some input before i pull the valve covers and re-time her again.) Also the car has not been driven in a couple years. I just drove it about 3 miles after resetting the light and it did not come on while driving. But as soon as i parked, shut it off and back on. There it was again. Check engine... I am going to drive it a decent distance tomorrow and hope it goes off, if it doesnt maybe Cam timing, vanos solenoid? Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks, Happy New Year
