4.8Is suspension does not go up or down.
A buddy of mines picked up a fully loaded 2006 4.8is on Wednesday. We noticed that suspension does not go up or down when pressing the ride height switch. The green light is illuminated in the middle, but the switch does nothing. The front left suspension sits slightly lower than the right. There are no warning lights or codes in regards to the suspension.
My buddy had his indy guy check the vehicle before he purchased it, and he said that the X5 is in great condition. The indy guy said, the cars needs to be driven some miles, as it been sitting at the dealership, to wake the suspension up. Is this accurate? I have never heard such, then again I don't know much about the X5. Any insight would be appreciated. On a side note, the 4.8is is one bad ass truck! I think I love it. I find it more exciting to drive than my 550i. I was contemplating picking one up, but I have heard many nightmare stories about the 4.8is

Not to be funny...and only because it wasn't mentioned...but did you guys read the owners manual just in case you weren't following the instructions correctly?
For instance, raising the suspension requires that the engine is running...if you were attempting to raise the suspension otherwise...then that could be the reason "nothing" happened. Lowering the suspension can happen as long as the ignition is in at least position 2...but raising suspension requires engine running. Just a thought.

We might not be master techs, but it's common sense to attempt raise the suspension with ignition on. lol. Ignition on or off the suspension does not budge.

Get the codes read, could be a multitude of things from valve body, electronics etc etc, see the Rangie forum as their air suspension is always going wrong, might give you an insight.
