Wierd Noise
I have a 2004 545i. Yesterday I noticed a strange noise (like an electric motor) running before I started the car. Sound seems to be coming from the the front console. I know that there is a whirring sound for a few seconds after you turn off the ignition but this is not it. Today I found my car unlocked and all four windows lowered halfway in my garage. WTF??? I have periodically checked the car and the noise I'm referring to is intermitten.

There is a normal noise the car makes upon opening the door, basically the car staring to 'boot up'; sounds like what you're described.
As for the windows, probably inadvertently held down the unlock button on the fob.
