Met a Mercedes E350 - pretty sad

She ran a red light and wasn't quick enough to avoid me.
I am glad everyone is alright though.
Now onto dealing with the insurance etc.

A bit confused...was the geometry that she was passing through the intersection, left to right, in front of you, and you drove forward and hit her 90 to her right side at about the B-pillar and she continued right, causing the scraping further along the rear of her car?

Regards
D.

Out of curiosity, how is fault assigned? They ran a red light, so they caused the conditions that led to the accident, but OP was the one who actually hit the other car.

It yet to be defined but from the PO's words it was 100% the other party's fault - she admitted running the light and it should be reflected on the report once I get it.

At the moment of the impact I was almost stationery, the other party's inertia was a lot higher than mine.
There was a car parallel to my left that left the intersection with me just fraction of the second earlier so their car was ahead of me at the middle of the intersection when the accident happened, I didn't even see the Mercedes coming at my left until it's front was in front of me inches away.

After hearing about an accident in Brooklyn where a speeding driver took 2 lives and his own earlier Saturday morning in a similar situation, I am glad that all I have to deal is just some plastic and mangled metal.
It's too early to say what damage estimate is and how long it might take to fix all this, but I hope to get this squared away by the end of the month.

Glad you're ok. Was the impact great enough for the airbags deploy?

No airbags deployed in either car. I estimate I was moving less than 10 mph (was still in first gear, I usually shift to second as soon as RPM's reach 1500) the other car was going around 30 mph; the impact turned the Mercedes at 90 degrees but it traveled less than 30 feet after the impact.

Glad everyone is OK.

What's up with no airbags? The damage looks sever enough. Sorry that your car is wrecked and the impending carfax

Let us know what goes on. I know iwth my accident (way more minor then yours). The person admitted fault to me, the cop and to my insurance agent (on the first interview). Her insurance company admitted fault. Then two-three months down the road her insurance company said it wasn't their fault. I won!

She's also driving it on a spare it looks like. Unsafe driver/driving conditions for them if you ever need that point as well.

Sorry to see you didn't quite escape unscathed, lq. I'm glad no one was hurt; it could obviously have been far worse.

Nah, you can see the Mercedes just plowed across the nose, barely touching the hood (if at all). Airbag systems are pretty smart now and won't deploy for impacts that don't send a lot of energy to the passenger cell--helps contain repair costs when the squishy bits are not in serious danger. Looks like she nearly tore the bumper cover off but even that doesn't take much if you hit it just so.

The lady's son came in to help her with translation etc - she was Korean and no one spoke Korean. So he changed the tire for her, the wheel was damaged.
Upon farther inspection of my car (it wouldn't turn over at first, limp mode I assumed with the Xmas lights on the dash) the front bumper headlights, fog lights, hood and latch are done with; the impact pushed the radiator support deep enough that the fan is interfering with the accessory belt.
There are no leaks though and it is a lease.
Thank you everyone for your support and concern, I am confident enough it will be repaired and be ready soon.
The most important thing everyone escaped unscathed.

The vehicle's speed was too low, and the impact wasn't hard enough. Airbag computers are pretty smart, and they know that you probably won't need an airbag when you're only doing 10mph.

I'm sure that there are exceptions that would deploy the airbags, such as driving 10mph and getting hit head on by a vehicle doing 55.

Glad everyone is ok. People make mistakes. That's what insurance is for. If everyone is healthy, it's thankfully just a nuisance.

Picked up the accident report this afternoon, and there are no discrepancies.
The car is in the shop waiting for the estimate.

Good luck LQ, let us know the estimate costs and as others said, the most important fact here is that no one was seriously hurt.

LQ,

Sorry to see this, but glad no one was injured. Make sure you crawl under the car to verify the paint finish is as good on the new bumper as it was on the factory original. I had to fuss about it a little to get it done right when I had my issue back in June 2011.

Don't let the offending parties insurance company try to give you the run-around about 'remolding' the bumper cover. Make them give you a new one.

Good luck and keep us posted.

The shop it's been taken to has the following under warranty terms and conditions:
"We guarantee that used parts or other than original equipment manufactured parts were not used without authorization from you as noted on the Repair Order."

I will be going to the shop on Saturday to look over the repair order, and get an itemized estimate on the work performed.

I really hope it goes to the scrape yard after the lease is over.
