Buying a BMW in Holland

Hi Everyone,

For as long as I have been a Bimmerfest member, I've never posted on this thread.

I'm currently in Europe - I'm a US native. This upcoming Saturday, I'll be helping my aunt buy a BMW 1'er. Has anyone here purchased a BMW in Europe or in Holland in particular? If so, are there any tips you'd like to share?

On a side note, I rented a 5'er diesel and drove the crap out of it on the autobahn. My fiance was not too happy about it. I've crossed "Drive a BMW on the autobahn" off of my Bucket List.

We bought our Z4 in England. I can't help much with The Netherlands.


Be prepared for sticker shock. The Advertised price might be "On the Road" and include tax. Very fuel efficient models should pay less tax. I don't know specifics, but a 135i might have many many thousands of euros more tax than a 116d.
There should be some sort of labelling. Look for letter codes. It might help if you can read Dutch.


The new 1er is a nice car, but BMW has cheapened the interior. I drove an 116i 5 door last year and wrote a review.

Andrew*Debbie - thank you for all the info. I am going to the dealer. I am hoping I can talk her into a 3er but it seems like the car might be too big for her. I know it sounds funny since in America - the bigger the better.
