X5M Am I the only crazy one out there ?
My friends say I am nuts and it appears that the auto reviewers think the same.
Who would buy a 555 Horsepower SUV ? But I have a logical reponse; I have normally have a SUV for daily use but I also have had a fast car too. My last cars were a custom Shelby GT500 (676 hp) and a X5 with a six. My X5 was totaled and I was tired of taking care of two cars for myself. Besides I have to take care of my wife's car and the same for my 5 kids. Therefore the X5M was perfect for me, fast and practical. I have owned a lot of cars going back to my '57 Chevy but the X5M has been the very best ! Practical ? |

I think the X5M is an awesome ride. Have a look on xoutpost.com to find some more people that share your view.

I would have that if I could afford it. seriously it has a lot of utility for a super equiped vehicle. no one thinks twice about paying more for a gtr or a 911 that have 1/2 the day to day usability, plus its m5 priced yet can do day to day chores and incliment weather better...

I'm with you. Got a 2010 xm5. It's the most practical impracticable vehicle I know.

I tracked my 2011 X5M
I had a 2011 X5M for 19 months -- it was my daily driver for 26.7K miles. I loved it. Had it on the track on 8 separate days in 2011 and 2012. Two days at Thunderhill in Willows, Calif. and six days at Laguna Seca in Monterey. Once I had it on the track one weekend and at Lake Tahoe in 3 feet of snow for a ski trip the next weekend. What a versatile vehicle!
A move to more practicality came about when I was accepted in January to be one of the 700 "Electronauts" for the 2-year test of the new BMW ActiveE all-electric vehicle, which I have had for 2 months and is now my daily driver. So I traded-in the X5M and ordered an M3 (a more proper track car) which is crossing the Atlantic on the ship from Germany now. The X5M was the most practical, impractical car I've ever owned. I miss it. Last edited by ydoc; 05-07-2012 at 07:59 AM. Reason: typo |

Can't be more impractical than me with a X5M in NYC! (As a daily driver too!)

Working and living in Germany and just ordered a 2013 X5M. Had a 2009 X6 3.5 and loved it. For me this'll be an impractical Autobahn storming, something for the soul, daily driver. Can't wait till it arrives.

Will your X5M be electronically limited to 155 mph (250 kph) or can you have it delimited for German delivery? Out of curiosity, what is the MSRP of the X5M in Germany? Best of luck with the X5M -- it's a fantastic vehicle. Very capable on the track, too. You should take it to the Nürburgring! Best, ydoc |

X5m
Thanks. I'm able to purchase via the US Military sales program which equates to really BIG savings. MSRP is $78,200.00. Fully loaded it tops out at $88,940.00. Normal price would run about $99K - $100K.

Awesome power, awesomely poor mileage. I lost my 2 months new M3 in April; got hit by a truck on the freeway. Replacing my X6 3.5 with X6M, now have both M power and the utility to tow kiddies around.

I am also looking into a x6M for similar reasons. Currently have my second (over the years) 7-series and wanted the Alpina but didn't have the cash for one at the time. Now, I have a bit more cash and miss the power I had in my old CLK55 ///AMG so am thinking...I need something for skiing trips to the mountains and a M could satisfy my power-lust. Now, just to find the right (used) one as I still can't afford a new one. Found a few '10s in the low 60's so...

Anyone else with a loaded X5 50i thinking about going M next time? With sport pack and AD, maybe ot isn't worth the extra money and ding on mileage for family trips to go M. I would go M5, but then I couldn't take the dog, too. X5 50i or X5M seems to be the choice.

Wondering about the new lines vs the current gen. The squared front end doesn't look as good IMO, if it stays that shape. We'll see next year I guess.

I feel the same way as the OP, I have always had a truck as a daily driver and a fast car as toy...why not have one bad azz car for all occasions. My only problem is my wife drives an X5d and have two of the same vehicle is not at all practical

I love the X5///M and always wanted one; now I'm just trying to convince myself it's practical to finally buy. Regardless, I know myself and whether or not it's practical I will buy one.
My question is whether I should wait for the new 2014 model update from the current platform or go with a 2013 sitting on the lot as we speak? I'd hate to buy one only to see a bigger, better, faster model immediately after. Thoughts? Opinions? Care to chime in Mr. Dunderhi???

Congratulations! ![]() It looks great! Alpine White was my first choice, but it didn't work out, so Carbon Black it is. Now we need to get some more involvement in this forum - there are like only 40 posts total.

BMW typically waits about 2 years before introducing M versions of a new platform, so I'm guessing Gen III X5M's won't be available until mid-year 2015. If it's a great ride then it will be time to trade up; if not, time to look at an extended warranty for the Carbon Black '13

I'm about to move from my M3 to an X6M for the "practicality argument". I love my speed and I need my space. X6M has less room than an X5M but it's just enough for me.
