Weird Thing Happened.
Cruising along at 65 in 6th gear, I had an opening ahead and as usual, like to get my money's worth on that Stage 2. I kick down the pedal to the floor and instead of getting the usual torque feeling, the car slowly accelerates. I mean barely. I noticed a yellow light blink fast about three times in the instrument cluster but it happened so fast, I didn't see which light indicator it was. Im 99.9% positive it was the traction light.
Roads were bone dry, didn't see any oil or anything but usually when DTC kicks in, the rear wheels skip. This felt like it cut power completely. I was in Sport mode (drivetrain only) so it may have been DSC but it just didn't seem like the right circumstance for it to kick in. Weird stuff. First time I ever experienced this type of behavior. I was expecting to see a crazy warning pop up on my idrive but it said "All Systems: OK" Sent from my SCH-I605 using Bimmer App |

As my trusted SA always says, "if it happens once, forget about it". The car's a computer and every once in awhile it has a glitch like any other.

My guess is DSC stepping in. When I was at the PC in February, we did several exercises in the 135i, some with DSC active and others with it off. I distinctly remember that yellow flickering DSC light every time I punched the throttle too hard when in the middle of a corner with a lot of steering angle. I also distinctly remember thinking, "WTF?!?! Where's the power?" This was because DSC was stepping in and controlling the throttle to keep me from spinning.
From you description and my experience, I'm thinking you might have punched it a little too hard causing DSC to step in. It's possible that DSC was triggered by the extra power from Dinan. Given the computing power of these cars, I'm sure other factors play into what (I suspect) caused DSC to step in, but the combo of punching the throttle and seeing the yellow flicker makes the most sense to me. Dinan may have nothing to do with it. It could just be something detected as unusual by the wheels despite the dry surface. Just my $0.02.

But at high speed, high gear, on a straight dry road??? Damn!!! I guess that kind of defeats the purpose of the tune lol. It almost felt like the car actually up shifted. Im sure it was DSC but it just doesn't fit the situation for it to kick in. Like TopDown said, probably just an isolated glitch. Thank goodness I wasnt racing or I wouldve looked foolish lol. I shouldve gotten an XDrive... NOT lol ![]() Sent from my SCH-I605 using Bimmer App Last edited by Itinj6; 01-08-2013 at 07:42 PM. |

Hahaha. Dinan prolly just didn't know what to do with you back wheels doing the splits, or whatever it is your IAS does
If you were in Sport+ you might not have gotten the light and lost the power. The back might have tried to getaway from you, but the pesky system would've left you the hell alone

I can't offer much more than what you discussed above already.
But I do believe this - if I wanted to mod a non-xi 650i like mine, the first thing I will do is a limited slip diff. I often take a certain freeway on-ramp in third, on a slight corner, and lose the inside rear wheel every time unless I gradually increase the throttle. Especially with the OEM tyres, this car's most important need is better rear traction. Then one can think about other stuff. R.
