Welcomed E90 owners into the F30 family

My best friend Allan, who I have known for 20 years, has been a BMW guy for a long time. His parents had always had them growing up.

3 years ago he treated himself to an E46. He loved it.

He was saving to replace the E46 with an E60 M5, a car he has loved for years. I was not thrilled with the idea due to repair costs, but hey his money.

A couple weeks later he winds up with a CPO '08 E90 with an N54 loaded to the gills, black on saddle interior. LOVES it. Begins asking me about tunes, I point him to a Cobb tune.

So then his wife stops driving the E46 starts stealing his E90.

So he wants my help finding another N54 E90. It had to be white, she fell in love with Oyster interior, had to loaded, and heated seats was not a common thing to find in Georgia.

I spent weeks on this. Bought a car in NJ, sold the E46, he was ready to fly out, but I inspected it and found a burn whole in the leather-beat car.

They drove N54,s N55's, F30 335i, you name it.

They spent two weeks chasing a white on Oyster CPO local '11 N55 car. Dealer fixed all the little issues. Gave it to them for a weekend.

When it came to pricing, they would not budge much. Dealer over paid for the car. $53k sticker, 20k miles, would not budge from $35,500-about $38,500 out the door. She just thought that was silly for the old body style-too much money.

She drove an '11 328, said it was a dog. Drove a '12 C250, said the turbo 4 was perky and liked it better. I explained they should drive a F30 328, but make sure it was a sport pack car. They drove a base 335 F30 and said it did not feel like they expected a BMW should, even though it was quick.

He then gets a loaner F30 328 BASE. They love the engine, but hate the base car.

Finally they look at one I found.

'12 Sport 328 RWD, 12k miles-CPO, white on everest gray(she loves the two tone), black trim/red highlight finisher. LOADED, cameras, power sunshade, sport auto, VSS, you name it. $53k sticker.

They put it in Sport, drive it-love it. She says it has light steering when she wants, but feels like a BMW when she wants the steering in Sport. Loved everything about it.

They bought it on the spot, $1000 more out the door than the '11.

She asked me about tuning it, so now I am off to Georgia at the end of the week to throw a tune on it and she wants me to guide her to putting the MSport front bumper and black grills on lol.

I have created a monster.

So in short, another example of people who loved their E90s, but found when driving the right F30-not a base or poorly optioned car, can end up appreciating the newer cars. Even though they can afford the gas, his wife had said to me that $80 a week on the 335 seemed a bit nutty and that the F30 328 was going much further on a tank. She also said they got the thing to ride really smooth despite the run-flats.

I came from an E90 to a properly configured F30, and love it. Wouldn't have been possible without this forum and the advice about options like DHP.

Slight changes of plans.

I had found them this a week ago:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-3...t_19305wt_1165

As much as she liked the '12, they could not pass this up for a negotiated price of a few grand more.

So they gave back the '12, and he flew to Nebraska(included in the price of the car) and is driving it to GA as we speak. Only thing is, she is not a fan of the wood trim so I am swapping that out this weekend.

You see James this is what happens when you know TOO MUCH about BMW's and cars in general. But what I love is that you keep mentioning SHE in your statements. Nothing is hotter than a woman that is this much into cars!!! Sports... sure, but cars...OMG! Glad to see you have created a monster. This should get more and more interesting ... keep up the good work!

Yeah, he is loving the PPK+8spd sport auto combo. It seems to be the only setup that he says matches the feel of his N54 E90 in terms of speed.
