It's not to bad. Right side front and rear doors are dented in. That rear quarter panel also got a little dented. At least it's not bashed to hell like on the 325i. It will probably be fine just getting tapped out with some bondo.

Yeah I got her insurance and a cop showed up. It was cool cause the cop was on my side and was pissed at the old lady. She admitted all fault though which was nice because it was her fault.

Gonna drop it off at this body shop of which my dads friend is the owner and get a quote on the repairs. Either her insurance is paying the shop to do it, or writing me a check based on the quote (Or so I've been told)

Still sucks. I like how I'm gonna be known on this forum for wrecking cars and complaining to everyone

If I were you I'd take the car to a couple of places for a quote first, then when the insurance company agrees and cuts you the cheque, then take it to your friends dad for a discount and pocket the difference for your troubles.

Do this. Go to a few places and show the most expensive quotes to the insurance company. If it's just on the doors, check craigslist and junkyards around you for E36s with the same color doors. The paint match might not be absolutely perfect due to sunfading, but you'll be able to pocket several hundred dollars to spend on maintenance, beer, etc.

Yes sir, just finished enlisting in the Army. My ship date is May 14th to Ft. Jackson SC.

Anyway for those who care, got the auto body shop estimate. $2,364.18. If they write me a check I'm gonna **** myself cause I can get two new black doors for $150 and fix the quarter with a tiny amount of bondo. I do all work myself (including body work and paint work) so no labor, which means a lot of cash in the pocket to right back into this car for new suspension, cooling system, etc.

This is the car:

Someone will notice, the back left door is a replacement (no pin stripe) Doesn't matter as the car is most likely gonna get all new paint. Because of both doors on the other side now, and the rear quarter panel.

Drivers seat and pass seat in worse shap in real life. Wood trim is going out, 18 button OBC is coming in. Gonna touch up the interior a bit, and a good clean.

Of course it's worse in real life, but this the best I could with my phone. Not to bad, just need some bondo on the quarter panel and both doors. Insurance is coming out to look at it soon, they said chances are they will look at it and write me a check on the spot.

Also:

Code Description
S240A Leather steering wheel
S243A Airbag for front passenger
S260A Side airbag for driver/passenger
S314A Door mirror / driver's lock, heated
S341A Bumpers completely in body color
S401A Lift-up-and-slide-back sunroof, electric
S438A Fine wood trim
S458A Electric front seat adjustment
S473A Armrest front
S494A Seat heating driver/passenger
S498A Headrests, rear, mechanically adjustable
S534A Automatic air conditioning

S674A Hi-Fi System Harman Kardon
S686A Antenna-Diversity
S692A Preparation, BMW 6-CD changer I-bus
S818A Battery master switch
S925A Transport protection package

Got it up on the lift, no rust anywhere.

It's a project, with some more surprise work on the way home but still loving it so far.

Thanks. I'm actually doing split-op so I don't do AIT until next summer so I don't miss any college. I'm doing SMP which is why I'm split-op. Only BT for this summer.

Keep in mind that they may very well try to lowball you if/when they issue you a check on the spot.

Yeah thats what I'm thinking. I'll just politely say no and explain that it was entirely their clients fault and that it's their responsibility to cover the cost 100% and full.

They will low ball you, it's just a fact. You need to go get a few written estimates from the body shops to use to debate with them. Don't be afraid to go back and forth with them, or even turn down the offer flat out. The longer your file sits on the adjusters desk, the more his manager pressures him to clear the file and the offer goes up.

Also, file a bodily injury claim. Even if you aren't hurt and Don't ever use it, it's better to open it in case you get whiplash or soreness later.

Wow, when life gives you lemons you make lemonaid. Seams like you got a good plan. One quick note, do not just just fill the dent with bondo. You want to pull the dent then bondo.

Also, if you're happy with the quote you've got, then tell your insurance company that that is the only place you intend to take your car. In every single jurisdiction I've heard of, YOU have the right to decide where you want any work done. You are under ZERO obligation to take a vehicle to multiple places if you don't want to. The insurance companies want you to so they can argue for giving you less money.

I had a run in a few years ago ( 3 weeks to the day after I got my car) and the guy that hit me was a complete ass about it. (His fault). The only quote I submitted to his insurance company was from Bentley of Calgary. They weren't happy in the least, but they had to pay it.

Also, I'm fairly certain PA is a no-fault state, which means that someone else's insurance isn't obligated to give you a single dime, or factor the cost of genuine BMW parts into their payment. You will basically get the shaft if you're trying to get money from someone else's insurance company in a no-fault state. You aren't their customer, and they don't actually owe you anything. That's why it usually makes much more sense to file a claim with your own insurance company in a no-fault state, since you have a legal contract with your insurance company.

For what it's worth, Bentley of Calgary is owned by BMW of Calgary, and does all of BMW's body work there But to have seen the look on the adjuster's face when they received the letterhead from Bentley of Calgary would have been a beautiful sight.

EDIT:

And this is the reason I will never deal with another's insurance company. Go through yours, and if their company calls you refer them to your company.

Almost Ed, but not quite.

You have the right to take your car anywhere you want for the repairs. The insurance company can still haggle the amount and the parts used both with you and the shop. They're under no obligation to just write a check for whatever the estimate amount it.

They'll typically give you a starter check (low ball) to "cover the estimated damages" that the adjuster writes up at the going local labor rate (which they also undercut). They know many people just pocket it, so they say if the body shop isn't able to complete it on their estimates they'll write the body shop an additional check. Allstate (POS conpany) lowballed the sh*t out of me when I was rear ended in the Jag, I got about half the body shop estimate after leaning on them HARD.

Now, when you're actually getting the car repaired at the shop, it goes pretty smoothly. When I had AAA and filed a comprehensive claim, I took it to the nicest shop in San Diego area and got the white glove treatment, including on site rental cars. Paid $50 deductible and drove off in a Mazda6 for a week.
