Angel Eye Upgrade?
We recently purchased a 2011 35d. As you're aware, the 2011's still use the "yellowish" eyes. Does anyone know if there is another bulb that can be used for brighter eyes (more whitish)? What are the disadvantages to said upgrade?
Thanks in advance for any and all replies! |

At that price, can't you just retrofit OEM BMW lights?

from what i understand, the OE halos cannot be retrofitted. you'd need new headlamps housings. i could be wrong as it's been quite awhile since i've kept up with the "halo" discussions.

That is my understanding as well....replace the entire headlight assemblies.
I've also looked into the PIAA Xtreme H8 bulbs but I have not received any assurances that these bulbs will not code or overheat....yet. |

MTEC is another option. Quite a few E90/E92 owners use them or the Lux mentioned above.

I see a lot of people use LUX for white angel eyes. But I question, you sit inside the car and you would rarely see the yellow angel eyes. Why do you pay so others can see your angel eyes white? Not many people really care.

As long as they are 35 watt, they will not overheat, just be aware when the headlights are on, they will dim back to yellow as the voltage drops.

Why in the world would you pick the color you did for your X????? Because it's probably what you wanted....see the difference here between you and I? There probably isn't one! Luckily, all BMW owners are a little different as to their tastes....some like 'em yellow, some like 'em white....some like 'em blue, some like 'em red. Actually, some people adhere to BMW's (IMHO) foolish engine oil change intervals. Is it wrong? I don't honestly know but I've looked at enough engine oil analysis from many, MANY diesel engines, small and large (the smallest being a V378 Cummins to an EMD 20 and many many Cat 3516's - we have 15 of them) to have what I feel is an educated opinion on what I feel is right...of course it's only my opinion....we all have one. Would I say you're wrong for your color choice or your maintenance beliefs for YOUR auto? Nope! Why question my reasoning on why I want something I can't see? I'm not trying to bust your chops and maybe it isn't what you said but how you said it....it just struck me as a little off. My apologies if I took it the wrong way....provided you apologize if you meant it the wrong way.....lol! Let's just keep motoring on and if you see white angel eyes coming at you, maybe it's me...flash your lights and I'll know! Here's my pride and joy.......the rest are just rides. Whoops...something just caught my eye from your post. Do you REALLY think I care, and do I REALLY act like I care what anyone else thinks? Hardly! Last edited by Fleetman; 01-09-2013 at 11:31 AM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ^how the end of this thread was lol Lux comes the closest to matching the OEM LED. Some others are available but tend to risk heat damage. OEM halogens are great, since before the new f-platform cars came about, the halogen color was the trademark bmw look w/ the blueish xenons. However if you want to dress your vehicle to make it younger and inline with the new Blue LED w/ xenons then the halos are a start. Try getting a set of the new tailights and your dreams of owning a combo PRE-LCI+LCI wiil be fulfilled lol

@jashearer - to quote a sign in my shop...."If it ain't red, leave it in the shed!".....lol!
Yes, I restore. The only thing Emma needs at this point is new tires (this Spring) and a new front cowling....most that I've found are worse than mine. She cuts a little over 6 acres weekly during Spring and although slow, cuts great! I have a JD 318 (John) which is a nice tractor itself but it's not a Farmall (not hard to tell where my loyalties lie huh?). I also have a 1972 Ingersoll with hydraulic drive, 60" cut deck AND a 48" snow blower with a Winter cab....talk about sweet....you can just make Erma out in this picture. We name all of our equipment, not to be cute, but because the grandkids like it. Our newest "acquisition is a Rascal scooter due to my bad heart and his name is Roscoe. The other pic is of one of my hobbies.... |

My apologies if you took what I asked the wrong way. I wasn't singling you out, your thread happens to be the latest about angel eyes and I was just curious and I like to be knowledgeable. Your angel eyes stay off when your car isn't on, turns on when you unlock your car and stays on when you're inside the car (that is why I say you rarely get a chance to see your angel eyes). You can't turn on and off your car's paint and is always there. You leave your car, park it in your driveway you will still see your car's color.

I was just kidding about the apology boostedx5SAV.....no need to. Sometimes when I climb on top of my rant box, I forget now to get back down.
Actually, although it's hard for me to see yours on this phone, I believe we may have the same color. After coming from a'99 528i and'98 Corvette it sure is a pleasure to not have to climb UP to get out of our ride! Glad you like the other hobby finnbmw....I have to agree it is awesome. We collect firearms and have a range on our property so we are very fortunate. The only two issues I've ever had were 1st, the State police dropped by and wanted to know if we were setting off dynamite....after they fired a box (cost me $38), they wished me well and left, the 2nd time, shortly after heart surgery, my wife suggested I fire at the range from our deck to avoid the walk (Roscoe wasn't part of the family yet)....sliding glass doors aren't fond of a .50BMG's concussion....ask me how I know :-( We shoot everything from .177 BB's to a .458 Lott to the .50......ain't life grand? Anyway.....all is good and we are LOVIN' life in the X! Happy motoring folks and thanks for the comments/advice for the angel eyes! |

Does anyone install/have seen the WEISSLICHT LED HALO Version 4? According to bimmian.com, this item is new and just release by bimmian 3 to 4 days ago. I order it but I don't have it yet. Much brighter from the previous version.
