2007 335i - service ideas? Just passed 6 yrs

HI folks. I've been searching through the forum looking for possible service ideas other than the dealer - in the Los Angeles South Bay area. My service package just expired. 85,000 miles. Service due lights say I need spark plugs, microfilter and a quart of oil. Called BMW, they they these items would cost $1000. HOLY CRAP!!

So, I'm looking for other service options besides taking to the dealer. I found several indys, such as Auto Werks in Manhattan Beach, a few others in the general area. Any success or horror stories?

Kenny at Auto Werkstatt is a great guy. I've taken my car to him just to do my x7500mi oil changes. I plan on having my car serviced by him once my covered maintenance runs out. His place is busy, so get a hold of him sooner than later.

Try another dealer and tell 'em why you're shopping around. Many will work with you. If they can't come down a lot from that $1,000 estimate, tell 'em you're sorry you'll just have to take it to an independent garage.

Kindly post an image of their estimate - enquiring minds want t'know....

Microfilter is a very easy DIY in my 5, maybe in the 3 as well. Seek videos on the internet.

Spark plugs are expensive, but a decent BMW indie will charge half or less than the dealer. An oil change by an indy should be a bit less than a hundred.

Go to International Motors at 1600 S. Pacific Ave. San Pedro. Nino is the owner/mechanic. All you have to do is see his shop and talk to him to know this guy knows his s%#@. He did my water pump and t stat and cooling system flush all for $270 @ $90/hr. Very happy with the results. Job was done on time as promised and for a great price.
