How to turn air/heater to off default...?

Every time I start the car either the air or heater (depends on where it was set) automatically comes on.
I do not want this, I want the car to act the every other car in that if I turn the car off with either set to on when starting the car it will be on or when the air/heater is off I want the car to start next time with either set to off.
I really that I have to turn the fan switch to off every time I start the car!!!
Many time especially this time of year the temp outside is perfect and we really don't need either air or heat.

How do I set the default to off when starting the car?

I really need the answer...?...anyone have theirs set to off?

I have not found a way to turn it off. Sorry. Only thing would be pushing the snowflake/AC button to turn it off and turn down the fans - but this isn't really helpful I guess.

This car is such a inconvince in some ways.

Wish I knew how to do this as well. I hate getting in the car and starting it with the system beginning to blow ice cold air in the middle of winter.

Before I shut down for the night, I turn the system off with the fan button. It defaults to the LOWEST fan setting when starting again in the morning. Not ideal but better than nothing.

This can probably be coded. Did you try asking the guys on the coding forum?

I just don't get your complaint. If you saw our Broncos loose. You know how cold it gets in Colorado. That week, when it was so cold, I played tennis indoors a number of times. I would leave the house with a fleece, tennis shorts and no warm-up pants. I think I would have noticed the car blowing cold air. I go from my unheated garage into the car and on the other end a 20 second walk into a tennis bubble. The rest of the time its the seat heater, steering wheel heater and the 650's heater system set to auto. If you leave the heater on auto it only starts to warm the cabin when the engine is supplying enough engine heat to start heating the cabin. That takes about 1.5 miles on my roads which are reasonably flat. I just set it for 70°F and leave it alone. I let the automatics do their thing to keep me comfortable.

One additional setting I do do for the winter or the summer is adjust the wheel in the center dash vent to blow warmer air in the winter and colder air in the summer. In the winter set that wheel all the way to the red (warmer). I bet that is what you are missing.

By the way have you ever noticed how in the winters some cars on the road have a completely misted over passenger compartment. In almost all of those cases the passengers have set their climate control to recirculate air only. The AC and the recirculation buttons are also important to manage the moisture in the car. That is comfort, safety and efficiency.

If you are a constant button fiddler looking for instant gratification you just can't be helped.

You don't get it at all...

I want the car to actually be set at the last setting when I get in my car and start it up.
If I turn the car on in the morning and the night before I had the setting set to off then I want the heat/air set to off.
If it were set to air cond. and I turned the car off then the next time I start the car it should automatically come on to that same setting setting.
Most cars on the planet are set up this way.

You need to code the car to do that.

BMW doesn't want the AC permanently off to prevent all forms of nasty from growing inside the car- these cars are extremely tight and need dehumidification to keep the interior fresh.

I do recall that the only way that could be done with my 2002 Z4 was at the dealer, using the key. Ask the dealer.

Agree with others on forum, that this can be set by coding, but requires someone who knows what he's doing. I don't think US dealers will touch this and they certainly won't do the other things on such as;


-Removal Of Seat Belt Chimes
-Removal Of Seat Belt Warnings
-Windows up/down with key
-Windows up/down with comfort access (Comfort Access Required)
-Folding Mirrors with key
-Folding Mirrors with comfort access
-Unlock doors when engine is turned off (Single pull on door handle)
-Removal of CIC Accept Warning (faster boot up after removal)
-Activate DVDinMotion (Play Videos on the go and stopped)
-Removal of camera warnings (requires cameras)
-Add Fuel Stop Proposals
-Remove window safety feature (windows will not stop rolling if door is opened)
-Remove Amber Side Marker Lights in headlights (Euro look)
-Fogs on with High Beams (Fog Lights will not turn off when high beams or used)
-Fog Lights on when car is unlocked
-Open and "close" trunk with key and inside trunk release button (requires power lift-gate)
-Add Digital Speed in Center Cluster
-Auto stop feature off when car is turned on
-Auto Climate Control off when car is turned on
-Digital Number Display For Tire Pressure Monitor with Temperature

Some of the features are dependent on the car options and type... obviously you can't open/close trunk unless it's motorized!
