window regulator

Pete here in hot ATL have a 1997 black e38 740il,right rear window is stuck down. How do I repair it?

Start out with poping out the wood elements. Gently with even prying. Large head flat head screwdriver works good. Once you pull that off most everything is easy to figure out. Take care in pulling it away from the door as the connections for power windows and seat memory and the light atthe bottom of the door all have independent pigtails that need to be unclipped. Someone holding the panel 4 inches away from the door while you work your hand in there is the best bet. Make sure you power the window up to a certain point to have clearance to remove the regulator. Peronally if your doing the regulator I'd throw in a new motor. They tend to go eventually and this will save you the labor again.

This is what I did to repair mine. First use a small flat head to remove the screw cover in door handle. Remove Phillip screw. Pull door handle to the right and let it hang. Start at the bottom of the door card, firmly pull to release plastic tabs. Grab and firmly pull door pull to release two inner tabs. Continue removing door card and rotate/push door handle through hole in door card. Carefully disconnect all wires from door card to door. Remove the speaker pod. Use a razor blade to remove vapor barrier by carefully cutting the black adhesive. With door open, you should find a portion of the pink upper window regulator wheel. Remove the bolt securing glass to window regulator. Have assistant lift glass as you remove the three bolts securing the window regulator. Disconnect power wire and remove regulator. With regulator removed, remove motor and install on new regulator. Very rarely does the motor fail. (Most of the time the wheel breaks , cable gets tangled up, and the motor binds). Installation is the reverse of removal. Good luck. :beer:

To get the regulator out; the glass has to come out. PITA job - been there - done that. (Mine 97 E38iL)
