Mercedes-Benz is also introducing the E63 AMG 4MATIC S-Model for both body styles with a rear differential lock and a more powerful variant of the same engine providing 585 HP (430 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) between 1,750 and 5,000 rpm. This will reach 62 mph in 3.6 / 3.7 seconds (sedan / estate). Regardless of the version, all models have an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
Power is sent to wheels via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission which offers four modes: C (Controlled Efficiency), S (Sport), S+ (Sport Plus) and M (Manual). A ceramic brake system is optionally available and comes with ventilated and perforated 360mm brake discs with silver calipers for the regular AMG model and red ones for the higher-spec S-Model.
The S-Model is further distinguished by 19-inch, 10-spoke alloys with 255/35 R19 and 285/30 R 19 tires (front / rear). The front splitter and rear trim strip have a silver chrome finish, while the sedan has a body-colored spoiler lip which reduces lift at high speeds.
The RWD versions will go on sale in April, followed by the 4MATIC and S-Model variants in June.

Aside from launching the updated E63 AMG, Mercedes has announced today the 2014 CLS 63 AMG which carries over the same engine upgrades as the range-topping E-Class model. The rear-wheel drive model is slated to go on sale in April, followed by the all-wheel drive version and the S-Model in June.

I think a "M5 competitor" would be a better phrase than "M5 killer". I think it will come down to personal preference. These cars aren't track cars so it doesn't matter if one is faster on a race track or not. In the real world of driving they will be very close.

I simply don't like the interior of that E-Class. The "harmony" is missing.

The performance-numbers sound good though...

They nailed the exterior design of this car, IMO.

I'm surprised Dunderhi didn't wait for this to replace his 550. After all it's balls out fast AND has AWD....

Benz is making progress. When you see a BMW M-car it looks like the ultimate expression of that body style, what it was designed to be and that the non Ms are stripped down versions. The AMGs on the other hand are vulgar and looks like the non AMGs in drag or like old men wearing teenager clothes. This E however looks more natural in AMG outfit, I kind of like it. The CLS is just a hideous over the top flamboyant drag queen in any style. The cls wagon is truly ghastly.

I agree. The interior seems quite dated to the otherwise great exterior.

That car looks nice, that fascia looks quite similar to the "m sport" front end (anyone else think so?). The interior looks "okay" I've never gotten used to the dial pad on the dash like that, it sticks out like a sore thumb, nice post though, those numbers are sick... V/r, Tim

It appears that I was successful in pushing him him to stay with the BMW family since he could find AWD BMW's that fit his needs. I have my radar on the 650/M6 next....

The back, and shifter still look like A$$, but the front is awesome.

M-B really outdid themselves on this one. This is one disjointed, incoherent mess of a design. Very desperate attempt to "about-face" the original W212. A rounded/organic front grafted onto an angular and ruler-straight body, lots of discordance, and that Star grille on the front is just blasphemy on the car (although looks MUCH better on the E63 than how it looks on the regular facelift E).

Of course I'm partial to the look of the original W212, but love it or hate it, at least it had one theme in mind (angular).

lol If someone had showed me that front I'd have said redesign for the c63

They chopped a 2013 Eclass in half and stuck a new front on it

I think MB did a good job on the overall facelift. The front and rear bumpers look really aggressive. However, I'm not a fan of the star embedded grill on a sedan. That was always a signature on the coupes. That grill makes it follow the looks of the C Class & CLS Class. Looks like the E is undergoing an identity crisis. I would much rather see the E63 with the original grill with the star emblem on top. That was the look all previous generations of Es had.

Nice updates to the bland interior we saw in the pre-facelift version. However, the overall design still lacks that wow factor you expect from MB especially from their best selling model.

the 4matic is the thing that puts it over the top for me regarding m5 and the e63. I'm trading in my 12 cls63 launch the moment it gets 4matic.

The headlights and spoilers are gross and yeah the interior just looks like a cylon vomited up parts in there and wtf is up with that shifter?

Wow I want one - I agree the design is not the prettiest but AWD and AMG is awesome.

No manual transmission...I'll take the M5 over it when you have over 500hp you want to be able to feel it

Don't forget, Mrs D made the offer; I can get two normal cars now and in three years when we are mortgage free I could get something really nice. I was dreaming about an MB SLS, but now I'm dreaming of an AWD SLS. I know, I know, it will never happen, but a guy can dream ever now and then.

Anyway, if the M5 couldn't win the comparos against RWD E63 and the S6, the future doesn't look to rosy when it has to face the AWD E63 & RS6. From what I have been reading there's already a glut of unsold M5s buildng at the dealerships.

I dig it. Very nice looking and the numbers (and probably sound) are awesome.

But which is more fun to drive??

Design wise, they seem to be trying to hard to rectify the wrongs of the W212's weird angular design by smoothing it out, while not making it too dramatic of a change before it gets replaced by the next generation E. The interior is spiffied up, but it is still a very staid looking design, trying too hard once again. But the specs don't lie. It will be real interesting to see where it ends up compared to the M5 and RS6.
