Just Wondering

In my manual, it says to use at least 91 AKI gasoline, but I was wondering, who offers the best petro?

Well down here in florida, we either have 87 , 89 or 93. I always put 93 in mine... Ran much smoother... I used mobile or chevron for the most part. Occasionally BP, cause its close to my job. Never had an issue with any of those three.

I live at 4300ft, so the highest we have in my area is 91. The higher the altitude the less atmospheric pressure therfore you dont need that high of an octane. Lower alltitudes you'll find your 93 and 94 octane. A few months ago I switched from on base BX 91 super (god only knows what that is) to Chevron 91. Seems to run smoother with better MPG.

Hmmm...do you have a sticker somewhere around your fuel filler cap? I ask because BMW's recommendation for the M62 engine (1996-1998 non-VANOS) is 89 AKI...with a minimum of 87 AKI...and using 91 or 93 AKI should "enhance" performance (so they say ) since the knock sensors & engine design can adjust timing based on "detonation" that occurs in the cylinders.

Below you can see the sticker that is on the original fuel filler cap on my 97 740iL (non VANOS M62 engine):
