Should I buy a 745i?

Hello everyone! I am considering buying a 2005 745I (110k miles). It's in mint condition with the cold weather package, 19 premium rims, etc... guy is willing to sell it for $11k--he was just going to trade it in at a dealer, and that was the trade in price. I currently own a 2003 530I, i've had it for the last 5yrs, bought it with 85k miles, and now has 170k. However, this car has been problematic on and off. I love the look and the performance of it enough to deal with all the troubleshooting and repair.(any other car i would have sold) My 530i has had pretty much the top 15 problems fixed, and actually runs better now than since i've bought it. But it has been a lot of head ache, money, and disruptive. In reflection I would have bought a different model with less problems.

My question is, 7series owners, would you do it over again? Would you go back in time and still purchase your 7series? Or are there multiple very common problems with this car, that owners roll their eyes to some one with a problem and say "Welcome to the club"?

I think the 7 series are good cars, only if you keep the maintenance on them. They are problematic at times, but its still the ultimate driving machine. However for that price, that's a steal. Those models are still going for 15,000. But the Li is the way to go.

get a 750.....

just like when geting a motorcycle... get a 600 and you'll be wanting a bigger engine once you are comfortable with the smaller engine.... but you'll be sitting there with a 600 wishing you had a 1000...

Something doesn't sound right.. there has to be something wrong.. or he's just a fool.. that car will easily bring in another 4k.. If he will allow you to bring it to dealer for inspection, and it passes I would give him 11k in a heartbeat.. 11k won't get you an 03 with 110k in mint condition..

I have no regrets with my purchase. But to be honest, this forum has always had a continuous revolving door of new members coming and going. This has become more apparent as these cars age. You seem like a DIYer so that is a good thing because your new 7 is in no way more reliable than your 5. There are tons of writeups in the DIYsection should youmever need them.

Yeah my friend owns his own trucking company so he goes and gets new cars every so often, and doesnt want to take the time to sell them. It's his wifes car, so it's been babied.

I appreciate the feedback guys, think I will look through the DIY's to get a feel for what i might have to do eventually.
