Tips/Tricks for reinstalling fuel injectors?
I attempted to replace the fuel injectors on my 1992 325i (first time doing fuel injectors). After installing them, I had significant difficulty trying to get them all seated properly. This took me 2 evenings of trial and error to sort out.
After starting the car and running it, I noticed a fuel running down the side of two injectors from the connection between the fuel rail and the injector. I've ordered a few new o-rings and have had them express-shipped and should arrive Saturday. I most likely damaged the seals by using too much force to coerce them into place, so I am hoping that this will solve the problem. They "look" fine, but may have been stretched. However, I still was not able to work out what seemed like the "Correct" process to reinstall these. My process was this - 1. Put some silicone/grease on the rubber o-rings. 2. Install (read force into coercion) fuel-rail side of injector, and attach clips. 3. Line up fuel injectors and insert into manifold 4. Install (read force into coercion) injectors as far into the manifold as possible starting from the rear of the engine. |

i've always made sure the orifaces were clean from debris, then a light coating of gear oil to the sealsto get them on the injector, then the rail, then the intake. make sure evrything is properly seated, and tightened, then run it. check for leaks.
no other real 'tricks' to it... ![]() you may have damages a seal, though, by forcing it. not sure if silicone would be best suited for injector o-rings. never tried it, though... df

I've allways used a dab of motor oil to lube them in. If they were the original orings then taking them out or trying to force them in probably did them in. Better to replace them now then have one go out at the wrong time.

New o-rings will facilitate the reinstallation of the injectors. Silicone grease is ok (just dont go nuts with it), motor oil works too.
