Hard downshift and neck injury

After some really weird neck pains and lack of body movement, I had a MRI done on my neck and found out I have a c7 herniated disc with absolute spinal cord compression and will require surgery ASAP..everyone is asking what type of trauma I had encountered and I could not think of anything except that my symptoms started the week prior to Christmas, right around the time of extremely hard downshift while in sport mode....I was moving at probably around 35-40 mph when someone trying to pull in traffic caused me to come to a complete stop and did not have time to switch to regular mode and had the most violent jerk I have ever had in this car...question is could this have caused this injury because there has been no other type of trauma at all????

Doubtful. The "Other Half" had a similar situation, with no trauma, that was a result of just getting older and normal body deterioration.
