Hi,

The Diesel variants didn't make it to the USA so as this forum is 99% USA orientated, no one will have direct experience.

If you've not already done so, nip over to the UK focused http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/

Most who opt for an upgrade will go to one of the budget stainless steel exhaust places who'll fit up a back box for you and you can choose if you want the exhaust quiet or a bit louder. I opted for a Powerflow and wanted perhaps 10-15% more sound upon driving/load and that's exactly what I got and sounds great - just a low 'rumble' type sound, no motorway drone and a quiet slightly lower tone idle. Performance wise, just a backbox will not give you any increase, for that, you'd need to fit one of the two ready made de-cat units, and have a full stainless steel system which would perhaps then give you another 5-8 HP perhaps, but better turbo spooling and thus quicker response and driveability characteristics.

Cheers, Dennis!

I would go with the magnaflow part# 14816 as this is what I have on mines. Gives a nice little rumble sound at cold start not too loud tho. You can always remove the resonator for louder sound. I didn't like too loud of a sound especially after long trips when you just wanna cruise.
