Door closing on 5 series

Having problems with my doors closing completly on my new 535 i. Dealership says its normal to have to shut door hard. Doesn't seem like it shuts as easily as my 2001 7 series did. Has anyone else had a problem with the doors?

Yes - especially the driver's door. My dealer said the same, but I insisted to fix it - now it shuts easier, bu the edge is not flush with the back door.

PS. You know what they say? One should never slam the door, but push on the handle until it locks...

BTW how the hood closes is also a joke

One of the many reasons why I appreciated the Soft Close Door feature on my 7 Series.

Give it some time - I had the exact same problem at first, but it went away and closes fine now. It was a little annoying, but I think the seals just need to be broken in a bit.

When I was deciding on options I went back and forth on the soft close doors. I had plenty of people on here tell me it was worthless. It is one of my favorite features of the car. If people are new to the car they usually don't know how to close the doors, they don't want to slam them and make you mad, with the soft close doors, doesn't matter, slam them, or just get them close. And with 3 little girls, makes them even better.

This topic comes up now and then. It seems that some people never experienced a new car, whereby the seals can be a bit tight. Actually, I never had an issue closing the doors on my 535i. I usually just give it a moderate "push" and it closes. I don't hold my hand on the door and push it manually closed. As for the hood, how would the other responder like it to close? It's a typical mechanism, drop the hood from about 7 or 8" and it latches fine. Normally, I don't have to push it down manually, as shown in the instructions below.

Definitely agree with comments here. My doors were a little hard to close at first but just took a while to break in the seals. They close effortlessly now.

Soft close doors were not offer on 2012 535Is. I added them at double the sticker price; and that was with itschase (Chase) doing it for dinner and a beer. What a guy! It was worth the money.
