My '04 525I rides like a bumpy go cart.

Greetings, I recently purchased a used 2004 525I with only 42K miles on it. Since it is my first BMW, the suspension/ride seems very stiff. I feel EVERY bump in the road as if the cars suspension has no "absorbing" mechanism to make my ride much more comfortable. Granted the car is 10 years old but with only 42K miles, I'm sure the struts do not need to be changed out. Is this the "norm" for BMW suspension? Is it supposed to be that stiff? The car has spanking brand new Goodyear Eagle GT's 225/55R16's on all 4's when I bought it and it is not a BMW "sport" model. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

It could be any number of things with you or the car. I would start by going for a test drive in a new one. This would give you an idea of what normal is. Then maybe look at tire size.

They are pretty stiff.. what were you driving before? I'd try to do a test drive or something on another one that is similarly equipped and see how it compares first

With only 42K miles your suspension should be fine. Check your tires pressure. Tire pressure is very important on our 5 series. You may have to adjust the pressures to find the right ride comfort for you.

I have 525 07" with 100 k and the ride is smoother then the "14 E350 I have , get your suspension check cause the mileage suggests the car must be parked for a while or something.
