Would you use this bike rack on your X5?
Says that it's compatible for 2012 and 2013 but not prior. It's the Yakima King Joe Pro 3...I got it because I wanted a rack that could go back and forth between my X5 and my wife's van (or Land Cruiser in a year or so)....Only issue I see with it, fit-wise, is the top straps over that rear deck lid.... Doesn't seem to put much strain on it but not sure what to think. The other issue is that my daughter's bikes wont even fit on it nor will one of their bikes fit in the trunk of my X5 either....so....guess this is more of an FYI than anything but would like to hear some feedback.

I wouldnt use it. Although it doesnt look like much stress.....you will be going over bumps, making the straps push on the spoiler.

I would agree that I would not use it since it would seem that it would rub on the paint and eventually show scratches I would at least put something between the spoiler and rack. The glass should be fine.

That stinks...really dont want to pick up two totally different systems for transport...especially since the bulk of it will be done with my wife's Sienna....anyone know about any other rear window mounts that wouldnt have as much emphasis on the top mount? Guess it's kinda necessary... :-)

Nope. Don't think it's even an option for the M-Sport.

I wouldn't put any significant load on that rear deck lid.
Since you have no hitch, get the BMW bike carrier that goes in the towing eye sockets, and get your wife another X5 (instead of a Land Cruiser) so you can use the bike rack on both cars. Problem solved.

Yep, I like your thinking...she is die-hard Toyota though. I am picking up the tow hook mounted BMW carrier tomorrow or Tuesday from a bimmerfest member that had it listed a while back...Just trying to confirm fit. Thanks!

The roof rack for the X5 is also really good. I have had it for a while. The only PITA is, when they changed styles and the roof rail config changes.

OP, I used to work at a Rack shop part time that a friend of mine ran. It is now the largest volume dealers of roof racks in the US. This is ALL they do, they specialize in roof carriers. The Portland store is just down the street from my condo and I stop in often to keep up. IMO there is only one way to carry anything and it is on your roof. Use Thule products. Yakima are good too but Thule has far fewer warranty problems, better customer service, and a higher quality product. Using a hitch receiver is ok too but ONLY if you have a 2 inch receiver. Bikes on a 1 1/4 inch put too much stress on the bar and hitch.
Go to www.rackattack.com. They have a fit guide on the site, all you have to do is type in your year and vehicle and it will give you the options. pm me if you want details and pricing info |

![]() Quoted for truth! ![]() These are our heaviest bikes, aluminum alloy and I have no problems getting them up. My Specialized Roubaix SL3 is less than 20 pounds, and that it is easy to put up
