Getting her back on the road

Hey guys, so as you know, I drive my E28 daily and the E34 is not on insurance. Drivimg the E28 in this weather has proved taxing and the repairs can no longer be neglected. Ill be switching the two in insurance so that I may begin the teardown amd the work (brakes, suspension, radio, minor other things).

As you all know, I did the valve cover gasket a couple days ago. In addition to many another minor things. This will be the first time shes fired since Nov 10. Ill keep you posted on the status amd the steps I take and my finding

Perhaps a vid of the first start up just fir kicks and giggles?

Fired right up. Tons of exhaust. Coolant warning. Those are both gone now. Totally forgot how loose the steering was...

Went to fill her up and the kids say the station lost their minds. "OH MAN E34!!!! M50!!!! YESSSSSS" Even recognized me as the guy with the 87...

My GQ E38 is regularly left for 3 months (battery on float charger) - always starts right up.

Thyre great. They have M52 which is almost identical to an M50. You wouldmt have to leave this forum for help with it. Theyre solid cars. Nothing beats a bmw 3 series. The reason I keep 5s is because I don't mind the extra maintenance amd I like the longer wheelbase.

It will probably have 100k miles on it but you know theyre rock solid. Suspension is the same type as the e34s. McPherson in the front (dreadedthrust arms) and shocks in the rear. You can find parts in all the same place we do. Tons of aftermarket support. Ive never owned one though

Hey guys.

• I jumped the car on saturday 1/12/13 at about 2PM.
  - Rough for 25-30 seconds at first then smooth.
• I let her idle for about 25 minutes.
• Took her up the road to top off my gas tank with fresh premium. (I had about 3/8 left in the tank)
  - Shut her down to fill up.
  - Fired it back up, no rough idle!!!
• Took her home and shut her down.
• Later that night, at about 8PM, I fired her up (rough idle again) and pulled her into the garage and shut her down, running for about 2 minutes.

Went to start her this morning to let her run a bit before work, keep the fluids moving and the battery charged, and nothing happed!!! Not even interior lights!! Not a drop of power...

60 Hours of sitting, after a jump and two subsequent start-ups. This doesnt sound right. Battery is Wal-Mart, 2.5 years old.

Could this battery just be crap? Is my alternator the issue? This leads me to believe s power supply issue for the rough idle. Especially since there was no roughness after the fill-up

Put her on a charger and when fully charged take her to have her battery and charging system checked . I'm almost certain its as simple as that Joe
And you where right on the e46 its a blast to drive , now we are going to have 2 bimmers thanks Joe

Have them check the alternator as well (which I'm sure they will). However, if the battery is low or bad, they will likely tell you that they can't confirm the status of the alternator until the battery is either charged or replaced. That's how it went when my son's battery started giving up the ghost.

Do you have the following readings?:

Voltage of the battery while the engine is off
Voltage of the battery with the engine is idling

That may shed a little light on it.

I don't have that. I would need to jump the car again and get my voltometer on there. Should I take the voltage at the battery or the terminals under the hood?
