can't open or close vert top with allen wrench
Hi guys, so it's mid 60s in Pittsburgh today and I decided to open the top to my 98 m3. There is a motor issue, so I usually just use a power drill to open and close the top. I must have done something wrong, because now when I use a drill/allen wrench, the top opened a few inches and now won't budge in either direction. When I crank left or right, all I hear are clicking noises near where I insert the allen.

dc wright is who you need to talk to. I'm pretty sure he hasn't seen your posting or he'd have answered already.
See the "Origami" thread at the top of the forum.

Thanks for that. I posted in the Origami thread. I hope I can get this fixed soon, this is definitely not vert season.

That's quite a pickle... Sounds like a gear is not catching properly.
You pulled the lever to disengage the motor? This might help http://forums.pelicanparts.com/101-projects-discussion-forum-bmw-3-series-e30-e36-1982-2000/596553-e36-convertible-top-reset-after-manual-pull.html

Just got back from Sebring so I just saw this post. Sounds like one of the flex shafts between the motor/gear assy in the center and the latches in the front corners has broken. If that's the case you can turn all you want with the allen wrench and the latch won't open. If you do a search you'll find a number of threads on this failure.
