2013 C350 4Matic vs F30 328i XDrive

For the same money, including allocated annual cost of maintenance, as 328i XDrive with Premium, a C350 4Matic with Premium, Convenience, Driving Assist packages. Equipment wise the C350 will have a backup camera that the F30 would lack for the same money.

The C350 has a more powerful engine, but the F30 has a more responsive transmission. Braking is about the same. The F30 under steers marginally less. I like the look the F30 a bit better. F30's iDrive is better than the C350's UI.

Having trouble making a choice. Which would you pick? Which is likely to be more reliable?

I am in the market too and just drove the C350 Coupe and comparing v the 3-series sedan. I really don't like the C350 Sedan it's too "old personish" but the coupe drove nice, was quick and responsive but I drove the 328i x-drive again afterwards and just loved the feel much more. For roughly the same price you are getting more bells and whistles in the 3-series.
I have quotes out to my broker for both to see what prices better on lease, so that could sway my decision as well.

It's the other way around here in Canada. Mercedes is more competitive price wise. For the same money, you get more with Mercedes. MB also has better financing rate. All in all, with the configurations I described, the monthly costs are about the same.

Agree with the "old personish" comment.

Unless you are in remote country land, I would pass the xdrive and get a 335i RWD and winter wheels. There is nothing wrong about the C350 (much superior engine than the N20) but it is a styling issue for me. Why are comparing a C350 to a 328i when there is a C300 4Matic?

Because C350 can be had for less than the 328i.

AWD is a requirement. I live an hour from Toronto.

Buying or leasing?

Im partial to the Benz, but like BMW - they both rip you off because you have to load them up at significant cost in order to have a well equipped car. The 350 has more stuff standard tho. Benz seems more cost effective and they subsidize the lease more than BMW, but they drop more in value than the BMW (My car had a 73k window sticker and I bought it for much less than half 2 years later). The Benz makes a great daily relaxed driver, the BMW seems more high strung and the 4 cyl is not ideal in my opinion.

I'd also seriously consider a Volvo S80 or any remaining Acura RL's on the lot because they cant give 'em away right now.

Merc is supposed to come out with a new c class in somewhat near future, there might be good deals on current models because of that. As someone mentioned N20 is not the best for 328. I would go with 6 cylinders in merc, unless you want to consider 335

335 FTW.

I just can't get into the MB styling. Too fufu for my tastes. I could dig on a C63 AMG, but you can't even get it with a 6MT :weak:

The C350 might have more horse power but it is no faster than the 328i. Looking at your pros and cons list, the 328i wins.

C350 engine > n20? Laughable comment. Plus the transmission on the merc doesnt know which gear to be in. It sounds better though.

Does your N20 sound like a lawnmowner at slow speeds? Mine does. Benz don't.

Thats the problem with 4 banger, they sound like crap and they are not as smooth as V6.

RWD + winter tires > AWD + all seasons

= get the 335i

Give it a break people. He didn't ask RWD versus AWD.

I've never driven a Mercedes that had a better driving feel than a comparable BMW. Handling, cornering, steering input and feedback, and overall feel has always been in favor of BMW. Mercedes has always had the mindset that all shortcomings can be overcome by just adding more power to the engine. Mercs are nice cars, but if you're a DRIVER at heart, the BMW has always been the better car.

The C-Class is at the end of it's lifecycle with a significant redesign coming soon. MBUSA is already adding new CLA/C content to their website, and the new looks nothing like the current. I don't know if that is of concern to the OP's purchase decision or not.

Why do people make such weird comparisons? I need good winter performance. AWD+Snows.

BTW, doesn't apply to my province, but next door in Quebec, winters tires are required by law.
