I recently had my exhuast system replaced but I noticed that it isnt the same. The cats at the front seem smaller than before, in addition to a mid pipe resonator, and the original muffler.
My question to you is: "Could these smaller pipes have an effect on the back pressure in the exhaust and cause a misfire?"
^FIXED. Jesus... Help Us Help You

Now, just because the cats and resonator may be smaller or different, doesnt necessarily mean the pipe diameter is different.

Is it a Meineke custom type job? or an OEM replacement?

Is it possible you got a 3.0L exhaust system? Does it differ from a 4.0L?
EDIT: Real OEM shows different part numbers for all three, Catalytic converter, Center silencer (resonator), and muffler

I dont know if they have a different back pressure or if that would cause a misfire...

I understand the exhaust system. instead of "box" please use the proper terms so we may help you....

Catalytic converter (Cat)

Midpipe and muffler

How do you weld and exhaust pipe shut?

please proof read your posts before submitting. My generation has allowed me to get used to garble like that so i have the gift (burden) of being able to read it.

Find a junk yard or somebody parting out by you. Buy a used OEM exhaust for a 540 and bolt it up. No O2 sensor will cause your rough start and $hitty idle.

Thay exhaust is not useable . It needs ti be replaced or somebody who can seriously fix it take a try at it.

Take a look at your tensioners for the squealy belt problem. Maybe post a video

Check your flex disc and center (carrier) bearing as possible causes for the shudder under the car.

Looks like the OP has found that there is no such thing as a cheap BMW. Shame, but stay with it. Once it is fixed there are no better cars.

Yes, beware of 20 year old V8 BMW's for used Camry money. Old BMW's need attention, just like the high maintenance female. Rewards are similar You do not just have to take care of her, you WANT to.

Then again, them make Camry's and Accords by the millions for good reason. How boring and unrewarding...

Good Luck!
