Car says to change the brake fluid
Got the command and erased it so
I wouldn't see the service icon. Is this something I should flush? Everything seems to be perfect. Advice? |

The general recommendation is to change the brake fluid every 2 years. I recently purchased a motive power bleeder that has a small tank and attaches to the master cylinder. You put a different color brake fluid in the tank and pump it up like a garden sprayer. You then start at the passenger side rear (farthest from the master cylinder) and open up the bleed screw. When you see the new color brake fluid coming out of the bleed screw you close it and move to the driver's side rear brake, then the passenger side front, and finally the driver's side front. It takes about 30 minutes and is super easy to do. I usually use Super Blue Racing Brake fluid and then the Amber color of the same brand the next time. Or....you just have somebody else do it. This is an easy DIY though.

Didn't you get the BMW recall service done. They must have flushed it then. It is not 2 year yet.

Yes you should do it. Brake fluid attracts moisture which in time will corrode the lines; additionally the qualities of the fluid break down over time as well.

hi,
I'm due a brake fluid change/flush. My local stealership charges $130 for it. Then, there is the brake flush/bleed kit from bav auto for 70+oil which comes to roughly the same. Do you guys think it's safe to DIY or is it not worth the trouble? I commute everyday, so I can't risk bad brakes. what do you think? thanks |

lol!
No I think I asked wrong. What I meant is that if it's super easy to do and safe, I'd rather do it myself with the bav auto kit. So its a question of DIY safety.
