Big Price increase on Disa Valves
Not sure if this has hit your area yet, but just heard from a BMW mechanic that prices on the Disa valve for M52tu & M54 motors went up ~$100. Now, it's listed @$340. Shop guy got burned b/c he found out pricing changed after collecting on the work.
I suppose if you need a Disa down the road, could always get a rebuild kit, or go w/ a Dorman aftermarket for 1/2 the price, or just disable that dumb thing. glad mine's a good old iron block M52 motor. no Disa...

I had seen the price jump from about $150 (the group buy price a year ago) to about $250 last week. That seemed exhorbitant. $350 is a COMPLETE RIPOFF!! Just buy the $75 upgrade kit from Gary and you are good to go.

^So did I. I got 2 of them, and upgrade them with Gary's kit.

I also have 2 DISA. The old one with Gary's kit and a new one for just in case.
I wouldn't be surprised if other parts would go up in price with the decline of the greenback.

There is only one manufacturer of the DISA valve, I'm told.
Personally, I think that manufacturer should be shot - but supply and demand being what it is - you don't pay what YOU think it's worth - you have to pay what everyone else thinks it's worth. If mine goes south, I'm rebuilding it. I don't like rewarding the original manufacturer for making a lousy design (think pin ingestion).

It's just standard practice unfortunately for pricing up older parts to get older cars off the road...

I completely agree...! This all pisses me off.... to no end....! BMW sees more demand in the Disa Valves, and decides to jack-up the price... Similar situation as to paying ~$140 for a freaking oil dipstick tube... WTF...!?! Is the price increase due to increased costs in labor, parts, shipping, ..... obama-care... LOL! I am sure there is some BS-line/ excuse going to be given...

I don't have DISA in my car so I don't know much about it.
$1M question: can one delete the DISA Valve, i.e. getting rid of it? |

You can, but your low-end grunt goes too.

Ever since the price increase we are selling more then we can get our hands on it seems, Its to bad bmw decided to do this but we have seen a large number of part numbers take quick jumps in price as of late.
I thought 250 was high but I can not imagine a shop paying 350.00 As always if you guys need anything let me know. Max Oembimmerparts.com OEM DISA Valves |

Does the DISA from "oembimmer" need additional tweaking ?? Something extra about the pin ?? oembimmer's cost of $240 might be the last reasonable price out there.
I can't believe we're getting hit with a price increase to compensate for a poor design. |
