Great news for 540i owners!

I just got an e-mail from Dave at OBX. Dont know if any of you remember, but I posted on here about 4 months ago about some 740 headers I found on e-bay for $275. Ryan was nice enough to order/test fit for us. His conclusion was not to order them. Well guess what? OBX said they are in prodution for 540i right now and will be released about the 2nd week of Augest. Even better news is, he said they would be very comparable to the price of the 740 headers! So set aside 300 bones my friends. I know Iv got my waiting.

The ones I found on E-bay for the 740 were OBX headers. OBX was actually the ones selling them on E-bay. The poblem with the 740 headers on our cars, was the driver side. 540's have the steering box which the 740 headers needed major reconstuction to be able to fit around it. Thats why Ryan suggested not to get them. He made them work, but from what he says it was a big headache. Now we dont have to worry about that. Even if these 540i M62 headers end up being $500, its still well worth it.

Not sure Poof. According to Ryan's "seat of the pants" testing, he said his car was making more power. How much more is unsure. I would guess-ta-mate about 10-15 for NA, and 15-20 for SC'd guys. Im just looking forward to the fact that I can get rid of those front cats. I think my passanger one is stopped up.

Subject: E39 M62 headers

Hello
Recently a guy on my Bimmer fourm bought the E38 headers and fitted them to his E39 540i. He said the passager side fit with no problems. He had lots of trouble with fitment for the drivers side around the steering box. My question is, do you have any plans to make a set for the E39 M62 540i? You would have a lot of customers at that price of $599. Your closest competitor charges $2600 for 540i headers.

Here is the link to the discussion and fitment of your headers to the E39 540i.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=429890

Any thoughts?

Regards

Jason

Second e-mail:

Hi,
Yes, you can do a group buy thru Tuning Depot, because we do not have a retail license to sell to the pubic. You can send Jeff an email at Tuning Depot, sales@TuningDepot.com , Iím sure he can work out a great deal for you guys.

Thank you.

Dave

I would be curious what material will be used on these headers. Do they include any heat shielding?

Someone else might have to take charge of the group buy on this. I will be out of country for 6 months, starting at the end of August.

Never recieved anymore email from the guy at OBX. Kept checking there site but never saw them. Dont think they every made them. One guy bought the ones for a 740i and got them to fit with a little custom fab. I gave up because my daily driver is a 740i now.
