ECU options for turbo

I'm doing more research on going turbo and see plenty of info on the hardware side of things (turbos, manifolds, etc) but don't see much on different tuning options. I want to know what you guys are running and the benefits (cost, ease of use, features, etc). I was looking at Microsquirt and tried to find out about VEMS but couldn't find much on their site. I have a 98 328is and would like to keep OBD2 if I can.
