325i e46 I want a new exhaust/muffler
I'm on a tight budget but would love to get a better sound and if possible, performance out of my 325i. What brands are best for sound performance and reliability without spending a fortune?
Any suggestions would help thanks |

Although the general consensus here is that you won't get much performance-wise out of only an exhaust, improving sound is definitely possible. Take a look at the Rogue Engineering IKON exhaust. $550 can't really be beat. Video/sound is linked on their website as well as plenty of youtube video.
As far as build quality, I can't speak from personal experience with this exhaust, but Rogue's quality on suspension products is definitely on the higher end (I can speak from experience there). http://www.rogueengineering.com/bmw/RE_EX_E46_IKON.html

if you want something used (which i would advise since u'r at a tight budget, and the power gain is minimal to NONE), go to the classifieds section on e46fanatics, those guys are always selling aftermarket stuff (at least when i've been looking for used parts).

i doubt 800$ is considered a "tight budget"

Custom is always cheap. Buy and muffler you want. Remus and magnaflow sound sick for a good price. Have a shop run new piping from just after the exhaust manifolds eliminating the two resonators, this will probably cost $200 plus whatever muffler you buy. OR buy ebay headers for $100 and do a muffler delete for another $100, leaving the two resonators in. Very good sound. My setup is about $650 which is headers into a two in/out magnaflow into two magnapacks at opposite ends of the rear bumper out to quad tips. Looks pretty sharp and sounds like a h#ll b!tch

I have a Borla and it sounds GREAT. Just enough depth without being artificial. You can get the set up for around $1k

tight budget, just do a muffler delete, and straight pipes.
Most exhaust systems will cost you over $500. You can get a magnaflow muffler for about $150.
