Smells like wiper fluid...

Hi All,
I picked up a 2012 X5d about a month ago from the performance center in SC. Love everything about it, but had a question for all of the experts. When I clean my windshield using the windshield wiper fluid, I can actually smell the fluid, kind of a windexy like smell inside the car. Is this normal? I thought it was weird the first time, but each time I get the smell and it's pretty strong. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Yeah this is normal. The cabin intake filter is located under where the hood meets the windshield. Perhaps use a fluid with a better smell?

Normal. This happens on most German cars I've owned. Just sprayed the windscreen on the Benz today and got a nice whiff of it. Factory fill wiper fluid has a pretty strong odor (cleans really well too!).

Totally normal. My 2012 Audi A6 does this as well.

switch to recirc and you wont smell

Keep in mind the fact that the fluid is being heated also. I'll smell it sometimes when I start the car.

Like others have stated is normal, for some reason factory fluid is stronger in smell. I personally don't mind it lol

It's normal. I like the smell so much that I only fill up with the BMW concentrated fluid. Cleans great also.

I love the BMW concentrate fluid. Smells like strawberries.

I went and bought myself 50 bottles of that stuff (at $1.50 each). Should last me a while.

Huh, the factory washer fluid smells like rubbing alcohol to me.

Now that's an awesome feature. Someone needs to come up with fruity scented washer fluid. Gotta love the 'design' of these cars.

Leave the recirc in auto. Whenever I try to wash the windshield, it ends up closing the vent automatically. You can actually hear it.
