Tire Questions

After having my car for 1.5 weeks, I'm assuming that I can drive another 5,000 miles on the rear tires based on the tread availability. However, if it comes time to change tires, this is where I'm having trouble deciding since the fronts have about 40% tread left and the rears look about 20% left.

A) Should I replace the rear tires and just keep the front tires?

B) Should I replace all of the tires?

C) Should I go conventional with a spare tire kit and ditch the RFTs?

D) Should I just stick to RFTs?

Also, for those of you who use the RFTs, how many miles can you expect before they wear out?

Welcome to the board! I know your new, but this topic had been discussed like no other! Have you tried a simple search? You will find a bunch of info!!

I'm running RFT because they were new when I purchased the car and I have the tire/Rim warranty. Most the boys here switched over because of price and driving difference.

My fronts are bald, but have 50k miles. My rears were replaced a year ago, and I have 70-80% on the rears, but front RFT will cost $750 so I am going 4 new non-rft for about $1,150

Thanks for chiming in. Still undecided as I'm not sure if the handling would be affected as some say that the suspension was designed to be used with RFTs.

If you are going to switch to conventional tires, make sure you do all 4 together..... I switched to Michelin Super Sports, Feels great !! (to those that say the suspension is affected, ya, in a good way....IMHO)

That is the tire I had in mind. I've only heard good things. From your experience, how long can you expect the tread to last?

Change to NRfs and you never look back.

There is no set distance, but I certainly recommend getting to the close tire shop or home. the thread is much lest than a standard tire.

For speed, absolutely do not exceed 50 MPH (as printed on the side of spare tire)

Oops, what I meant to say was how long can I expect the tread on the Michelin PSS last?

IIRC, i think should be around 20k

The Michelins are 540 more than the Toyos...So Toyos for me.
