840 CI Sunroof
I am considering purchasing a 1997 840 CI. The Sunroof has crazing cracks in it and must be replaced. It has been a Florida car its whole life so I am guessing the sun got to it. With such limited production, I would guess a new glass roof will be hard to find except at the Bimmer Parts Counter. Can anyone advise if the same sunroof was used in the 7 and 5 series for the same year or does the 8 series have its own unique roof panel? Is the BMW parts counter the only source for a replacement? Also is this a DIY job or must it be done by a BMW Dealer at $125 per hour?
Thanks Jolo |

It is possible that the same part may have different numbers accross the BMW range. That said most roofs have subtley different curves. Try a wrecker - often they know from experience what parts interchange. Depending on your skills and a good manual it may be a job for you. I don't think any dealer tools are required.
