E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

Sunroof won't close
I have a 1990 325i and the sunroof is stuck open. The motor will pull it all the way open but then it will only shut like 10 percent before the motor stops. I was messing with fuses the other day. It's been a super cold winter (It got above 20 F for the first time in weeks). Any suggestions? And please don't say take it in.

Lube the tracks with white Lithium grease (CRC makes a spray version, available at most auto parts stores). Manually run the sunroof closed with the hex wrench in the tool kit. Wait for warmer weather, then tackle a proper fix.

Could it be the cold that is causing it? It sides open but not closed. The temp constantly been in the teens and single digits fahrenheit? If so any ideas to warm it up? I don't have a garage.

cold cld b messing with the motor its plausible..you cld try using rly hot water and seeing if theres any ice down in it somewhere..but id try cranking it in manualy n see when you get past the mark that it doesnt close automatically if it hits anything or you feel anything...im not sure how the auto works cus mines manual but maybe it slipped off track...cranking it in manually mite fix this or let you know if it did or not..have you tried it with the car cranked?..if not then maybe the car battery is weak from the cold n it needs some juice

may look alot like this be careful tho dnt wanna strip it out is the switch right in from of the sunroof? if it is you may have to take it off n see if theres a little hex thing you can put a tool around or into like a allen wrench..thats what i would think and on mine which is manually thats how it works you have a little handle and you spin it so i wld think yours wld be like that under the auto switch but dnt quote me lol

If there is a hair dryer around you could set it on low heat so not to melt any plastic and let it blow towards the guide rails.
