2008 328i engine stalling
Hello,
I have a 2008 328i with about 86k miles on it. I have noticed recently that when I have the car in drive (its an auto) with my foot on the brake (like at a red light), the car seems to be struggling to not stall. The revs will drop too low and the engine will start to clunk for a breif moment before revving back up to normal. Aside from this, the car seems fine. Any ideas what could be causing this? Should I be concerned about a serious tranny issue? Thanks! |

You might do a search for threads on the eccentric shaft position sensor (or just eccentric shaft sensor). There are at least a couple of these suggesting a tendency of this component to fail in the 328i at about this time, with symptoms relating to RPM fluctuation.

Update
Just as an FYI - this got significantly worse today. In addition to iddling problems I also ran into problems at highway speeds. When I hit the gas, instead of the usual response, the car will just shake.
I called my local BMW dealership and will be taking it in tomorrow AM. The tech said that it sounds to him like a bad coil. |
