Weird Sound and shaking 325XI
Hey
My bimmer 325XI 2002 is doing a weird shaking and sound when im driving it. It looks like some axel part over the wheels. It happens everything i run the car but it just start shaking when im hitting the gas pedal.... no matter what speed im at.. it will always start shaking if i hit it... if i release it no matter if im at 60mph or 20 mpg it stops the shaking ... I notice that in both side this part is broken... pic.twitter.com/48F6ag3z ic.twitter.com/48F6ag3z could you please tell me the name of it ? i got 2 bars down there, the smallest one is the one with the rubber cover broken... and it looks like there is not more grease on it anymore... any idea ? Thanks! |

You have multiple issues.
1st -- In the picture your boots on the steering rack have failed. replace them as soon as possible or risk damaging your rack. if not already.... $$$$$ 2nd -- your issue with vibraion upon acceleration is caused by dry cv joints. After seeing your steering rack boots in the shape they are I would wager that your CV boots on your axles are done for as well. That allowed your grease to escape and is causing your vibrations. Solution here is replace just the boots and grease if the axles are still good.....or if they are not then new axles are in order. Good luck.

For your vibration issue (because your axel CV joints are dry) you will either need just the boots and have them installed or if your cv joints have perished beacuse they have been exposed to the elements and road grit/debris then you will need new axles. OEMBimmerParts has the axles here http://www.oembimmerparts.com/BMW_E4...rts_s/1983.htm but I do not see just the boot kits. You might email Max and ask if he can supply them if they are all you need. If he can not here here is ECSTuning's site where they are listed. this gives you a good look at them and what the OE part numbers are. http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-325...riveshafts/CV/ Hope this helps

Great, i went to the mechanic and said the same as you... would i just need one of this http://www.oembimmerparts.com/produc...6752478e46.htm or should i order 2 of them, each for 1 side...
Btw, the Mechanic says that is better to replace the whole CV JOINT instead of just changing the boots... so im changing the left side which is the one broken, the Right is in good shape... |
